How exactly does CX Waitlist work for awards?

I think we're conflating two things here - please correct me if I'm wrong:
- A diamond member can 'forcibly' open up standard award availability for themselves and their companions, as long as they're on the same flight.
- A diamond member cannot open up standard award availability if they're *not* on the same flight as the people they're redeeming for, but the waitlist request will open up by the requester's (diamond) priority.

We currently have Business Companion flight: YVR / HKG, HKG / BNE, SYD / HKG, HKG / YVR. As we took what came up to be available for redemption, our time in Australia is shorter then intended. We have been waitlisting for few months and have been calling MPC consistently multiple times everyday but nothing has come up as of yet either from SYD/HKG or MEL/HKG.
Appreciate if anyone can check on the chances of our Business Companion waitlists being released:
Existing flight:
Nov. 23 --- CX110 --- SYD / HKG
Waitlisted Flights:
Nov. 26 --- CX110 --- SYD / HKG
Nov. 28 --- CX162 --- SYD / HKG
Nov. 27 --- CX104 --- MEL / HKG
As well, can anyone check on the chances of seat becoming available SYD/HKG or MEL/HKG between Nov. 25 - 30?
It would be a great relief should anything come up. Thank you

okay. That's why the rest of us isn't getting thru
Your first two flights are i9 with half empty seat maps. But under the Flying Air regime...

Thank you for the quick reply percysmith.
"okay. That's why the rest of us isn't getting thru" That brings into light a different perspective that was not intended. My apologies.
Excuse my unfamiliarity, what is meant by "Flying Air regime"?

Hey all. I've been trying to go to HKG with my wife for a good 6 months. Had the miles ready for CX F round trip via Alaska, but couldn't make our time off work, and partner availability essentially disappeared starting in June. I finally decided to take a stab at the waitlist directly with CX a couple weeks from now. I was confirmed for LAX-HKG in J within 12 hours (waitlisted on Saturday, woke up to the confirmation on Sunday).
I'm still on a couple waitlists for HKG-LAX and wanted to see what you think my chances are? From what I've read there seems to be no rhyme or reason for releasing seats these days (unless you have status). When looking on EF, is it "I" that I want to look out for?
The fight I'm trying to get is CX 880 on 11/12/18 for 2, either F or J. Any thoughts on my chances and when they typically let you know if you cleared? I know there is a deadline, but curious if time the time has already passed since I waitlisted so close to the deadline (I think 11/1). Thanks in advance!

I am interested in flying from the US>HKG on 12/26. I recently waitlisted several options, using AM.
For example, I waitlisted all of the below, and Expertflyer shows the following:
CX 8450JFK
12/26/18 12:50 AMHKG
12/27/18 5:40 AM77W

I've never flown CX or used a waitlist option. Looking at the seat maps, there are 30+ seats open on the two JFK options and 15 on the EWR. We're somewhere around 60 days out. Am I likely to get these? If so, any chance I find out sooner than 14 days out?

What's the chance of clearing the waitlist for two J on CX 879 on Nov 16? No MPC status. Loads as of Nov 1:

Hi, I'm seriously considering redeeming miles for J in December. It would be very grateful if somebody can help me to do a flight load check on:
CX881 & CX883 - both 8 & 15 December
I'm currently on a waitlist for Y on 15 Dec. I asked a ground crew in HKG about the availably on 15 Dec and she said that I have very minimum chances of successfully redeeming a ticket of both CX881 and 883 in every class even for being a MPO Go. Since it is my birthday I really wish I can travel on CX on that day.
P.S.: I've checked 8 Dec and there are seats available in Choice award, but not in Standard award (being waitlisted). How high is the chances if I can redeem in Standard award (as MPO Go)?
Much appreciated.

For J, I'd say loading means nothing to your waitlist status (probably unless you are DMP). I'm wait-listing a companion J seat for a flight from Tokyo back to Hong Kong with J class wide open for a few months already. They simply won't release those seats and just hope that someone will buy them later.

And while their formula is pretty tough to decode, it seems to me that it's not just the number of J seats that determines whether they will release award seats. If PE is pretty full, then it seems their formula won't release J.
Getting back might be even tougher, depending on your target return date.

Pretty low chance as the flight should be overbooked in Y and PEY already. They may have some very last minute release, like a day or two before, but CX may give priority to op-up in this case.
