Where to meet up

My father and I are flying CX F in a couple of months on different flights. I am on CX 873 arriving at 6:10 AM while he is on CX 881 arriving at 6:45 AM. We're connecting later that afternoon to BKK

Where would be the ideal place in HKG Airport for us to meet up before heading into the city for a bit? I was thinking the Arrivals Lounge but perhaps a different lounge or location would be easier and more comfortable to meet and freshen up before going into town?

Thank you!

Arrival lounge would work. Alternatively you could find his gate and surprise him at the gate

really depends what you're looking for and how hardcore you want to be about it.

*Arrivals Lounge is practical....easy spot for both of you to meet, close to Airport Express, both of you will have access. However, there's nothing sexy about that place and it's very small and cramped. Definitely functional though and serves the practical purpose well.

*If you want to be really hardcore, are into the whole lounge thing, want the best "experience" etc., get your onward BP to BKK (and tell your father too as well) at your departure airports. With this, you'll be able to go through transit at HKIA and access the departures (airside) level above the arrivals level. Thus you both can access any of CX's lounges, including the Wing F if you want to use a Cabana, etc. Then, when you're freshened up you tell the staff you must depart the lounge and go landside. Fyi this is not a typical request but is doable. I personally have done this before, as have other posters I've read about on here. They will either give you a stamp, slip or accompany you, you then go to security who will let you back downstairs to the arrivals level. Then you proceed through immigration and visit HK before returning to the airport.

*Meeting at his gate is a cool idea. You could then do either the Arrivals lounge or the airside option above afterwards.

I caution the airside thing is a little extreme, this definitely isn't what CX is intending for pax, and personally I don't do it even if I have a long connection in HKIA. I can't recall exactly but I seem to remember I did it because I had a situation happen in HK that I had to go airside and attend to. I usually go into town or play golf at Sky City Nine Eagles (airport 9 hole course) with a connection such as yours. But just saying this is definitely doable if that's what you're looking for.

Does HKIA publish arrival gate information anywhere?

I think it's posted on TV screens in the arrivals gate areas, but not elsewhere.

Can someone confirm (or post a pic?)

If you use android phone, you may download the unofficial flight stat app which shows the assigned gate (given that you have internet access).

Alternatively, just go to a transfer desk and I guess the agent will be willing to tell.

I'm not sure you can hop on the train backwards from immigration area. The escalators don't go down, so taking an elevator to train level, but i believe you're not allowed to ride the train backwards to gate 40ish.

That's correct, but you should be able to walk if you know the way. Granted nothing is signposted so you may need to ask around.

Meeting at the gate could be problematic if the earlier flight is delayed and the later flight is early or something else goes wrong.
If you wan't to head to town immediately after the second person arrives:
there are three walkways to the airport express platform after you exit customs. The right and the left one have freestanding ticket counters. There is a sitting area between the walkway and the ticket counter. You could meet there (ust agree on leftmost or rightmost walkway) - it is also close to the arrivals lounge. The first person arriving could kill some time there.

If you want to heads up to town using Airport Express, you can meet at Crystal Jade kitchen.

You can sip a coffee or tea whole waiting and it is just next to information counter on the way to Airport Express

I'd meet in the Arrivals Lounge as:
1, You can have a shower and breakfast in there before heading into HK
2, If one of the planes is late at least you have access to computers/wifi etc
3, It's close to the Airport Express train platform

HKG doesn't post arrival gate information anywhere. Just arrival hall. If I were you, I would just meet him at the arrival lounge. The lounge might not be much, but its still a better place to relax and kill time rather than wait at the arrival area of the terminal.
