You can find out if your itinerary is eligible on a dedicated CX page for that (google Cathay Upgrade Bid or similar).

Yes, eligible for op-up.

Yup... all four segments are eligible. The min-bid is about $1100 USD IAD<->HKG.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Will wait until closer to 7/5 to decide whether or not to bid as loads start to become more evident.

Unfortunately the bidding system seems completely useless. From the posts I read in this forum, the recommended prices are usually so high they are laughable and/or just plain broken (aka, same or even higher price than the original ticket in the higher class).

I paid about $3k/ticket for my "E"class fares and the suggested $2k bid per leg would make my ticket about $7k/ticket. A small discount over what I would have paid to just secure the ticket by buying it outright.

And I would assume that if I have a bid that gets rejected, I won't be getting an op-up should one become available.

I think I might just hold tight and stick with my original ticket and see what happens.

That has been my experience as well.

Not true. On 2 past flights, my low bids were rejected but got op-up during check-in. So it doesn't seem a rejected bid would change your op-up chance.

LOL! That's crazy. Rejecting additional revenue.

Thanks for the info!

Hello all.

I am CX Marco Polo Silver Status and BA Gold. Flying DUB - HKG soon on CX direct service. What loyalty scheme am I best off to use as my main Frequent Flyer for this ticket, can I use more then one programme on ticket? I am currently in PE on DUB - HKG leg and economy on home leg. Dub - HKG seems pretty full. Thank you

Separate bids

Me and girlfriend will fly HKG-MAD in December, but we booked our tickets separatly, so it really looks like we are travelling singlehanded. What if we both bid, but only one of us gets accepted?.
Is it possible to reverse the bid after it has been cleared? because both of us wants to upgrade to Business and sit together of course

I would use BA Gold, unfortunately it's not possible to associate both your MPC and BA Gold card with your booking. The only time where this is useful is a case where you'll get physical benefits from one and not the other. An example would be priority boarding, that's given to MPC Green members but not BA Bronze (or oneworld ruby equivalent).

Have got lucky this week with op-ups, 2/2. Noticed a new feature, CX now sends email notifications "Seat change to your flight CXxxx". Has this been around before and I've just missed it, or is this a new thing?

Did you notice if economy and/or PE were both sold out on your flight?

And were you booked for PE originally or did you get the double op-up?

I am CX Silver. Anyone got the loading for CX597 (KIX to HKG) and CX826 (HKG to YYZ) on 04 July? I am booked in Economy M class for the first flight and PEconomy E for the second flight.

Hi all,

am new here! Looking to book SIN-HKG return 13JUL - 16 JUL. Is it a good idea to book Core instead of Save, if I'm looking at any slight chance of upgrade?
I got invited to MPC after flying several flights with Cathay, am also flying on my birthday (13 JUL), if it helps.

also, can anyone kindly help me to check the flight load for CX650 and CX710, please (or is it still too early to tell?) Thanks!

If I win bid, will exit seat cost be refunded?

CX newbie flying HNG >SEA. I’m booked in economy but have paid for an exit row seat. Just found that I am eligible to bid on an upgrade to PE. On AA when you waitlist for an upgrade (points+$) and it goes through, whatever you paid for an extra legroom seat gets refunded. Is this the case with CX too?

TIA,
Clay
