Upgrade and Op-up question
All.
I have several questions regarding upgrade and op-up. Thanks in advance.
1) For Op-up, what is the priority with mix of MPO elite and OW elite? I remember long time ago there was a post regarding this, but I can not find it.
2) If there are several persons having the same tier but not enough to upgrade all, how to determine the priority? The BN number? Does it matter about the fare purchased or the time of ticket purchased?
3) For the normal Asiamiles upgrade, is it the same priority as op-up?
4) What is the normal way to request the Asiamiles upgrade? Do it in Asiamiles.com? Call AM? Or do it in the airport? Does it matter about the time of request upgrade?
Thank you all..

1&2 Answer can be found on the sticky FAQ
3 No. Asiamiles upgrade definitely beats op-up - after all, CX is taking something from you rather than giving upgrade for free.
4. While there is the option on cathaypacific.com under redemption, I am not sure can it progress upgrade redemption. Call AM / CX is ok.do it in the airport is also possible.
It is on a first come first served basis if seats are available - while waitlist will consider the tier first. If you do it at the airport, as long as there is empty seat on the flight, you should be able to redeem.

1. You can find op-up priority in the FAQ section 8 here.
If you have credentials from multiple airline programs, and you are flying CX, and you are hoping for an op-up, you will definitely want to use your MPO number.
2. Most evidence points strictly to BN used to resolve op-up conflicts, with no consideration for fare paid.
3. Agreed, mileage upgrades beat op-ups. Even last minute mileage upgrades at the gate beat op-ups.
4. Make your booking first then call AM and request the upgrade. You can also try the online upgrade thing but I've never gotten that to work. Calling earlier should get you a better spot on the waitlist (within your MPO elite level).

Another dumb question.
I bought a Y ticket and use miles upgraded to Y+.
Can I still earn mileage for Y? the reason that I ask this is because the CX website shows that I will earn 0 miles for booking class T in managing my booking. I believe that T is a booking class for upgrade to Y+
Thank you

Yep, full Y fare, upgraded to J, denied mileage, appealed online, denied again, I'm going to HKIA and tell the MPO desk in person and explain the situation...

yep...same situation for me as well. full y fare upgraded to y+, called MPO and agent knew that it was glitch and submitted a claim, denied two days later, called back again and was then given an approval number and saw mileage credited 3 days later.

can someone update the FAQ - NO UPGRADE IF YOU HAVE INFANT... sorta obvious but still....
I (silver, on N class) was travelling with infant + child + wife 4 ppl on same booking to Cebu recently. Flight was full. At checkin the agent offered me only an upgrade to J whilst others sit in Y. I refused and sat together with family in Y. In past I have been upgraded with my Green Wife only (yes even as Silver).
Child also may have dampen my luck but rule of thumb is even if you are travelling with infant, yes you might get a shot for upgrade at checkin but unlike those automatically done prior to arrival, infant/child will defuse your luck.
however anacdotal evidence of my colleuge (DM) is he and his entire family (including maid) was upgraded on flight to Tokyo, so being DM will always help of course.
