Same earn rate as that 6X offer from that other Shanghai bank!

Very timely too for Hong Kong's primary production industry...

P.S. some cardholders also got an Exclusive Spending Rewards offer of 8X extra RewardCash in addition to the above.

f you are selected, you will be told after you key in your card number with 8228 2068 for the original 1K RC for $20K spending promo. You will receive an additional registration number 20100xxxx along with normal Red Hot Spending Rewards registratio nnumber 10100xxxx.
I tried to research this on my own, but couldn't get the T&Cs to open on my computer: Is this on top of the 6x/11x bonus for the regular Red Hot Offer?

Meaning that if I make a HK$20,000 purchase in my category (dining, and percysmith tells me that a banquet purchase will count ), I get the 6x RC for that (480RC=7200AM) plus the 1000 bonus RC(=15,000AM) for a total haul of 1480RC=22,200AM, or HK$0.9 per mile?

Either way it's still a no-brainer to put this banquet on the HSBC card now, right? Without the 6x, it still works out to around HK$1.23 per mile at that spend level. Since the other cards in my wallet are the DBS Black MC and Citi Rewards, I'm not going to do any better.

Yes. 6X/11X and this offer runs simultaneously.

Correct. Do it on a Friday and get 180RC more for $0.8/mile

Well provided your banquet only costs $20,000...if this is a wedding they should cost a lot more.

As a Citibank Premier card holder, I just received an offer from Anantara Resort whereby I can select to go on a 3 day 2 night stay at one of their resorts - Seminyak, Bali, Sanya, Hainan, and I cannot remember now but their resorts in Phuket and Koh Samui. Airport transfers, breakfast and other charges will, need to be paid by the guests and guests MUST attend a 90 minutes presentation of their vacation package at the resort.

The offer is valid until the end of March. The offer appears interesting but I like some advice before I decide. Has anyone been to their Anantara resorts? Out of the 4, can anyone recommend which is good? The offer for the stay is for Sun to Wed only and you need to pay $888 for the Sanya and Bali resort. Will you be 'forced' to sign up for the vacation packages after attending the presentation? Has anyone experienced attending the presentation etc?

Thank you all in advance for the advice.

I just spoke to a HSBC customer service officer. I found out that I am not entitled to the 11x RC for overseas spending because the transactions were all done on Thursday. When I spoke earlier to the customer service officer before leaving for my US holiday, i clarified that spending in the US on Thursday will be seen as Friday in HK because of time difference etc so all my US transactions were made on Thursday.

I am not happy of course. Any advice please.

Thank you.

I wonder whether the condition to the stay is you have to attend a 90-minute presentation in the hotel with your another half. Even though it is not a mandatory requirement, you'll come across timeshare sales many times during your stay in the hotel. My husband and I have been to Anatara Samui (not on a vacation club offer) and repeatedly approached by those sales no matter whether we are by the pool, in the beach, in a hotel restaurant or just sitting in the hotel lobby. Think twice before you decide to take the stay offer

I often receive these offers, and got one like this yesterday (now in bin). Do double check the fine print though, to see if you have to attend a presentation where I presume they will try and sell you a time share.

I don't think you will be "forced" to sign up to anything, but from what I understand from friends who have been to similar presentations (I think theirs was with the Marriott Vacation Club) they do go for a hard sell.

Thanks Derek. But the card doesn't work as is

HSBC signature $2,000 annual fee for extra 3x, not waivable
If I use am $0.10, I need to spend 111,111 extra in 6x categories (any of them) to recover the $2,000 annual fee

The cap for 3x is 120,000. So I barely can break even

The deal is better for my supp, with $1,000 annual fee and separate $120,000 quota. So the card breaks even at $55,555 and 3x from $55,556-111,111 is "free"

I'll pass, wait til there is first year annual fee waiver

HK Travel Agent with no credit card surcharge?

Can anyone suggest a Hong Kong travel agent who can make CX reservations with long holds before ticketing and doesn't charge a credit card surcharge?

Just about to make flight reservations for next summer. I know several HK travel agents who can delay ticketing (and payment) until next May/June--but they all charge the usual credit card surcharge.

Is it the Holy Grail to find a travel agent who can do both? (I've never managed so far)

Haven't seen this anywhere, but Amex are changing the earning rate on the Cathay Pacific Elite Card (so far as I can tell, no change to the regular CX-branded Amex).

New rate on local spend is 1AM/HK$6, in line with DBS Black.
New rate on overseas spend is 1.5AM/HK$6.
New rate on CX.com purchases is 2AM/HK$6

For local spend, this is an improvement on the DBS card for MPO elites, assuming you don't mind the monthly autotransfer, since you don't have to call anyone once a year to get the annual fee waived. It's no change on overseas spending since 1.5AM/$6 = 2AM/$8, the old rate. The biggest gain here would be on CX.com purchases.

Unless my math is totally wrong here, this will probably persuade me to ditch the DBS black card. I earn and burn at a fast enough rate that I don't worry about expiring miles if they auto-transfer, and I'd value the convenience of not having to have yet another card in my wallet and statement in my mailbox each month.

Change pros: same earn rates as DBS Black AE on non-CX local and overseas earn. Better rate for cx.com
Change con: Priority Pass benefit reduced from unlimited Priority Pass for principal cardholder to limited use PP (4 times/year) for principal cardholder.

I wouldn't cut the DBS yet. DBS has occassional 10% bonus conversion of DBS$ from time to time. CX Elite never has.

I would seek to convert to DBS Black MC - same earn rates and much easier to use around town.

uh-oh, time to lookup my Priority Pass expiry date - that was the only reason for having kept the CX Elite card all these years after having moved out of HKG!
(I 'lost' my Priority Pass and had requested a replacement card a bit back - its sitting in a colleague's drawer - that has, in the past extended the expiry date by a year).

So the wife's Amex expiry is Dec 2015, but her PP card expiry is Jan 2015. Does that mean she's OK until Dec 2015 or Jan 2015?
