I was at TPE and the agent came up to be in the lounge and said they can upgrade me, but me only (traveling with wife and 2 kids), so of course I turned it down. But it is nice that they bothered to ask.

Nice! That's due to your tier! Unfortunately your travel partners won't get upgraded... but even so, I reckon its the system tells the agent that you are eligible for an upgrade and that's why he/she came to offer you... If a check-in agent could upgrade anyone then my ex would have upgraded me every time when I fly with CX... that would be super nice! ;-)

And don't get me wrong - I very much enjoyed my CX 838 F upgrade when I was BN 4. But I do think tie-breaks giving priority to a same-tier member who hasn't enjoyed an upgrade for the longest would be a fairer metric than who had the fastest internet access 48 hrs before departure.
Agree. And from a marketing standpoint it makes sense too. A customer who knows about BNs is not necessarily more valuable than one that does not. Better to spread the joy and use last upgrade date for a tie-break

I was traveling from ICN-HKG and received my first upgrade ever to business class. Im a casual traveler (never for work), but this was my first upgrade and first time in business. Im a lowly MPC GR so thought it was good.

I know nothing to do with the OP's question, just felt excited to share! haha

Currently I'm an MCP SL member, but you won't beleive the only upgrade experience I had with CX was way back I wasn't even an asia miles member..

I was just sitting near boarding gate with my sibling (who is also a non asiamiles member) and both of us got upgraded
