IFE problem
Just got off CX415 from ICN. Had 6 people in Business class.
The IFE was working in video mode, but as soon as they turned the AVOD on, the system automatically changed to "interactive" mode, cutting off the program that was in progress then froze on the "System Loading, Please Wait" screen.
After waiting "please wait" for about 10 minutes, I asked about it. The flight attendants checked other screens around the cabin (no one else in the cabin was using the IFE) and reset the system. When that didn't work, they found another seat where IFE appeared to work and I moved.
That seat worked in 'video' mode for about 4 minutes, then also changed itself to "interactive" and stopped on the loading screen, where it remained for the rest of the flight. I ended up watching stuff on my laptop (which I am currently recharging in the F section of The Wing).
Does this happen often?
If I contact CX would then send anything my way?

yet another compensation type of qeury.
For broken IFE, you are entitled to free return F-class ticket to anywhere of choice, confirmed in advance (that's why they reduced F-class to 6 seats on 777ER because only compensation type of guys are sitting there). You also can request Complimentary Diamond membership for you and Gold membership for your spouse. (that's why we see so many of them lately amongst the Amex offer). Sometimes if they might chuck in 500,000 Asiamiles (that's why it's so hard to get awards secured these days, dilution)
if that's not enough, you can always go to Court.

If you do write in, just FYI, CX415 is a regional 330 which doesn't have AVOD. The interactive screen doesn't do anything other than send you back to the relevant video channel on loop. No point confusing the poor sod at customer relations.
A bit surprising that the ISM didn't give you duty free vouchers then and there. There is supposed to be a push at CX to resolve those problems that can be taken care of on the spot, well, on the spot.

Last week I was on a 744 service from PVG to HKG when they told me my selected seat is not available because the screen was not working, they offered me 11A which didn't have a window so I stuck to my 12A throughout the flight. over all it was okay, the SP on the flight was nice enough to make sure I was okay with no IFE during the flight and took time out to make sure I had a comfortable flight.

I was on a regional 773 last August when the PTV screen fell off...I was never able to change seats since the flight was full but got a sincere apology from the ISM and SP. I did however write an email to Marco Polo about it and got 7,500 miles as a goodwill gesture.

Many years ago I saw two guys on a flight, passengers, using tools from the crew to fix the recline cable of the seat in Biz class. They got it working again after about ten minutes and the crew had a really good laugh with them about it. It was in the days of cables not motors used to recline

I just make sure I have my iPad loaded with the later books and videos...when the screen fell off, it didn't have screws so either it left HKG with no screws on or the last occupant took it out. weird.
