For the record, based on Wikipedia's Skytrax page, CX's rating is dropping (but they do still maintain as a 5-star):

(Since 2010, CX has officially dropped out from top 3 airlines of the year).

Regardless if I expect too much or not, definitely CX needs to work on some of the issues (or standardize it).

I know some of you think that I am "DYKWIA". Trust me - at no time, I was DYKWIA at all. Except for ISMs, I treat FAs with respect and sincere, and vice versa.

Also, for those who think I am too harsh on CX, here are my responses:

Am I too harsh to Cathay Pacific?

I am not quite sure why this rating matters that much. Let's face it, if BA can make it no. 1. You think this really is completely reliable?

That said, Cathay may hv a lot of works to do. I am sure they must hv checked all the boxes that rocketed them up in the top league. There are certainly bad eggs in a basket, but, Couple of bad flights wont throw their recognitions down the drain, or just yet. I hv a strong belief that consensus prevails, the odd bad publicity isn't consider as consensus.

Also, bear in mind business transports also weigh on the convenience cx could offer, to an extent leisure transports too. Cx connections at major hubs like lhr, JFK, net et al are unrivalled, let's bear in mind all the factors in the bigger picture

ORD international arrivals at Terminal 5 has to be a candidate for most disappointing terminal of any major airport in the world. Who needs an arrivals lounge when you can entertain yourself by making calls from a payphone or have a dusty Bud Light in the 1980s nostalgia bar? The sad thing is the terminal is relatively new.

Or a Bud Light from a small cart. I wonder if UA and AA had a hand in making T5 a ramshackle to encourage people to fly with them (and thus depart from T1/T3).

I remember someone told me the Terminal was planned to be state-of-the-art, but after 9/11 they have totally revamped it to be "security-first" and this is the garbage we have as the result of that mentality.

I just flew CX F ORD-HKG-(BKK)-ORD, and wanted to comment on my check-in experience at ORD. i booked the AA award within 2 days before the trip and could not get a seat assigned, so upon checkin I was assigned 2D - the checkin agent told me that no windows were available - after boarding F was only 3 of 6, and the flight attendant asked if I wouldn't prefer the window - apparently the TA didn't know that 2A & 2K weren't actually occupied but blocked for bassinet

Just a note, the return on 1/19 was totally full 6 of 6 (I think the whole plane was full).

This was my 2nd RT ORD-HKG in F.

Believe me or not - CX needs to work on improving its GAs in ORD.

Just took CX806 about a few weeks ago. Was op-upped to J (first long-haul op-up ). Strong tailwinds meant that, as seems to have been the case all winter, we arrived almost an hour or so ahead of schedule.

However, at least for me, any benefit of the early arrival was negated by the long wait at immigration, due to the UA flight from HKG arriving right before us. It also seemed like the day that a bunch of local colleges (I saw Northwestern, UChicago, DePaul) started school, which meant that the visitors' lane was chock full of students from the UA flight. Compounding the problem was the fact that there were four, yes, four, counters serving a 747 and a 777's worth of visitors. There were two other counters marked for foreigners, but citizens were being directed to them. In total I spent maybe 40 minutes in line, which I know isn't terrible, but I feel could be improved significantly by just having two or three more officers come to work. I can't imagine how long the waits were for those in row 67 or those on the flight that came in right after CX (from Europe I believe). Anyways, end of US immigration rant.

I did appreciate the fact that CX has a separate carousel for priority bags. I wonder why they don't do this at JFK or SFO (I believe they also have a similar set up at LAX).

Also, perhaps CX should consider rescheduling their ORD flight so that it arrives 15 minutes before UA's

LAX does not have a separate carousel for priority bags.

No offense - it clearly was not CX's issue but CBP.

That's correct; however, my bag is given priority treatment and always comes out in the first two or three (I think that third is the worst I've experienced when flying in the F cabin HKG-LAX). I expect that it has more to do with the loading at HKG than it does with LAX handlers paying attention to priority tags.

I wasn't ranting about CX, I was giving insight into my experience arriving into ORD, as per the title of this thread.

Why sometimes I see CX807 flight ORD TO HKG change to 777-200 instead of 77D(300ER) when I use flighttracker online...?

Currently, we are booked on April 2012 via CX807. 2 adults and one 8 year old. Seats are 37ABC Economy. I wonder if these are good seats? I hope the shell seats that I have been hearing about are already change on our flight. Booking says 77D....

I have no idea why, but it's simply incorrect. Their 777-200s are only for regional flights and cannot (in their current form) fly to ORD. The only possible aircraft swap you have on that flight is from 77D to 77A (CX's other current 777-300ER configuration).
