Early reset for Diamond?

For the last couple of years, I've reached the 120k required for DM in around 6-7 months and have phoned MPO to reset my mileage to zero early.

DM+ doesnt look that exciting and even then thats not guaranteed. Are there any benefits to going through a whole year over above 120k?

DM+ is for top revenue passengers, so unless you pay for all your flights (assuming the majority of them are in full paid F), there really is no point in going the 120K if you don't have to. I'd put it into another program if I can.

Except you can add to your lifetime Club Mile and aim for the 0.5M / 1.0M ...... Op-up

Nope. DM+ is based on revenue, not miles flown. So unless you are flying mostly F (and paying for it out of your pocket), you won't get DM+ even if say you fly 250K a year.

So yes, calling them to reset early is the smart move.

Why does it have to be paid out of your own pocket?

A single Op-up at 0.5M/1M is hardly worth crediting the miles IMO. In the years when I had over 120K miles I credited the excess to AAdvantage since that has a Lifetime Status for 1MM/2MM.

This would be my advice as well. Excess miles to another program. If I would fly J/F most of the times (unfortunately now stuck with Y) I would even consider first building my AA status.

Do you mean reset early and have next miles credited to the following member ship year?
How early can you do this?

In my case, my account was reset 1 week before normal expiration date. When I was GO I tried to do the same but was denied "lost 20+k" there.

If you fly CX metal, and knowing that you can make CX DM or GO, then I would suggest sticking with CX MPC. CX treats their GO very well (and treats their DM incredibly well.) As GO the op-up chance is very high and you're higher in the pecking order than other OW Emeralds (AA EXP.) Yes AA EXP can access the First Class Lounge, but I would gladly trade that for higher chance of op-up.

I am not likely to fly that much more than 120K a year, but yeah, if you are one of those that flies more than 120K, then probably building up your AA status is good. Their lifetime 1MM/2MM membership is awesome.

Depends on how much you pay CX. Despite what others are saying here, I think it's myth that you must fly entirely F class to obtain DM+. True, the only guy I know who has it flies quite a bit of F (as well as J), but an MPC representative I was speaking with a while back said that they have a number of DM+ who fly copious amounts of long-haul J class. I suppose there are some professions that could demand that type of schedule.

The criteria is how much you spend, not how much you fly. And full-fare J class to North America, as I pointed out in another thread, can cost as much or more than F class to European destinations. So although logically a lot of DM+ probably fly a lot of F, it's certainly not a requirement. Just how much $$$ you send through CX's register is all that matters. I also heard something in the neighborhood of $150k USD is around where you need to be hitting, although we have a few DM+ who occasionally post here and maybe they can clarify that.

It's not a magic dollar figure, it's top 1% of the DM that makes DM+. Also, I don't think anyone is saying you have to only fly in F (maybe I missed that), but we all know in here that it's based on revenue given to CX. So yeah, if you fly many long-haul non-discount Js, you can ramp up much revenue for CX.

Based on my experience, if you continue to put your excess miles to MPO, I have not been able to see any additional benefits. On one qualification year I logged about 220k club miles (95% paid J) just to see if there would be any differentiation (other than DM+) and was treated just like any other DM.

Or you could hope for lifetime miles that would mean something behind the scenes or sometime in the future... but crediting anything over 120k to AAdvantage is probably better than faint hope.
