I am in the Cabin right now! There is probably around 25 people in the lounge. There are signs at the check-in counters about the new lounge - so the word is definitely out there.

The lounge is definitely amazing, and definitely a step-up above The Wing/The Pier Business Class. The decor is modern, tasteful and clean - lots of black and white and red. It actually reminds me on Virgin America. The view is quite amazing, even though it is on Level 5. Unlike other Level 5 lounges such as QF Lounge and The Pier, you can see through the windows to the tarmac under gate 21/23.

The self-service buffet is a wonderful addition. Breakfast items such as scrambled eggs, breakfast ham, congee with condiments, dim sum, fried noodles, and a variety of breakfast breads were available. I also like the vertical counter where differnet tea bags are displayed.

The Deli is a manned counter, and although I didn't see any sandwiches or antipasto, there was fresh fruits, cheeses and some bread.

The Health Bar is basically a longer version of the Short Bar, also manned, and there are a variety of smoothies and fruit juices to offer. '

The IT Zone has 11 PC and some Macs, and is to the left of the lounge entrance (all the above are to the right). Printers available at all the PC.

The "Solus" chairs or whatever CX calls them are pretty cool. It is located in the IT Zone as well as the seating zone. They are quite interesting, but I don't think it is functional. I didn't see anyone sitting there. I wouldn't want to sit there because it is too "cocooned" and private that you really can't see what is going on around you. The table is also way to small to fit a laptop. I would suggest CX use this space instead to create more sitting area.

Another minus point is no showers. Showers are only available in The Wing and The Pier.

The washrooms are also quite interesting. Quite small, but modern. The one-touch function to open the doors are cool features, but isn't quite functional as I had to try a few times.

So to conclude, the lounge is definitely amazing and quite functional. Gone are the noodle bar (but the other food options are more than enough to replace it), and the bulky sofas placed around in a square (replaced by comfortable bar tables, restaurant tables, those Solus chairs), and the "personal living spaces" are also gone. I would estimate the area available to passengers is around 60% of the size of the current The Wing Business Class section. This is a much needed upgrade to the crowded and tired (but still functional) lounge at the Wing.

why no shower? for overflight I think take a shower is quite essential.

Space limitation or something related to plumbing I suppose. I don't think it's really that big of a problem since the other 3 lounges have showers and they're not that far of a walk away. Also, most of the long-hauls operate close to The Pier / The Wing while the 20s gates are usually regional flights.

I am also sitting in The Cabin right now... In case there were any questions about access, I'm a (non CX) OW Emerald and had no problem getting in. There's a row of seating right behind the bar that overlooks the tarmac and has great views of watching the runway, if watching takeoffs is your thing.

Ah yes, forgot about the G16 facilities. They're a 'regional' lounge as well, so I guess that's the reason for no showers.

Soft opening I presume.

So am I under the correct assumption that unlike the Wing nor the Pier, the Cabin has no separate business and first section?

This is correct. I did not sample the food but it appeared to be a bit above the J lounge in quality, but below the F lounge in variety.

I think the smoke salmon and prosciutto is not available at the Wing/Pier

Hope the Cabin isn't a taste of what lies ahead with CX's future... I mean its a nice lounge and all but no F area? Hope when the Wing is renovated they keep or even enlarge the F area... seems more crowded in F than J nowadays in the lounge...

Maybe it is a sign - and they'll convert one of the F/J combo lounges into F only and expand the offering to match SQ's Private Room or BA's Concorde Room.

One can only wish...

looking at it optimistically, if they have done a J lounge that nice (relative to current offering) I hope that means a nice upgrade for the F lounge when they renovate it.

I would be surprised if the F side of the Wing didn't end up bigger than it is today.
