Walked past the new lounge last night walking back from Gate 46 to the Wing.

Lounge access is between Gates 21 and 23. Elevator and Escalator going down (ie similar layout to The Pier on Level 5 (I think)). Signage is already up but covered by red sheets.

Looking down the stairs there is still a lot of construction material down there so looks a little way off.

Checking with the Wing First hostess, she said it was presently scheduled to open on October 11.

Sonewhat surprising location given it is only a couple of minutes walk to the Wing from those low-20s gates in any event.

Maybe they've put it there to ameliorate passengers complaining about KA flights using gates 500+

My timing could be good to check it out freshly opened. . .will be in HKIA 17 October with a five hour layover.

Anyone else here going to be passing through b/w the 11th and 17th?

I suspect they're opening it now so they can start remodeling the Pier and Wing....will alleviate some of the overcapacity problems that would emerge otherwise

just received an email from cx, and these are the highlight points:

Cabin open on Oct 11 near gate 23 as previously mentioned
Features:

• Healthier drink options at the Health Bar
• A deli
• Self serve buffet
• iPads for lounge use
• Video conferencing room
• IT Workstations

The Wing will now go under renovations by section starting 4th quarter of 2010, beginning with the Business section and then First Class.

Will MPC SL members be allowed access to it?

will be sure to drop in on the 11th on my way through HKG and again on the 16th.

I'm assuming this will be a standard CX lounge. The fact that I received this email as a SL member probably means that the access will be similar to the Wing and the Pier.

Looks like a new generation lounge finally. Unfortunately it's going to make the other lounges in the network look outdated now. Surprised they didn't give London the new design as well.

A few CX employees told me otherwise, that it would be available for GO and DM only. Not sure about OW but assuming corresponding levels would be allowed as well.

During the renovation, hopefully CX will restrict access to the lounges to CX passengers only and send BA/QF to their own lounge if the number of seats is going to be reduced temporarily.

CX may need to be careful if they are giving lower tier MPC members the impression that its open to all levels. I think they should clearly state it, as they did with the arrivals lounge.

I am flying out of HKIA this afternoon, but am just a SL, so will probably miss out then. No problem though, since it is highly unlikely my plane will leave from near Gate 23.
