I'm booked on 873/872 in Feb 2010. I can't imagine ending up with an old style seat overinght, instead of the lie-flat.

I was shocked to see CX uses 773 ( not 74A nor 77A) to fly 870/879
The 773s are equipped with the old model chairs for J class ( took one time 8 years ago) and the seating layout for 773 shows no F class..

What the hell! Why not 77A? The old business class chair on 773 is not good..
Well the original Boeing 777-300 is simply impossible to fly that range. so no worries it must be 777-300 ER

Looks like they switched back to the 744 for CX 879 for flights from April.

Hey relax!! Do an F dummy booking for any dates for 879/0 and you'll see FC being sold. Only one type of 773 has F and that is the 77A which is new not old. The regional 773s don't even have F to begin with and don't have the range to fly nonstop to SFO.

Thats depressing, I was hoping for the 74A for my flight in April. Its bad enough that they upped the J prices by around $250 last week.

I will see a smaller cabin is nice once you're in it, bathroom luxury aside. And I do find the 777 to be a smoother ride, less prone to turbulance.
There really isn't a great set of seats for couples in either the 74A or the 77A. 1A/K on the 74A is probably the best, but even these seats aren't really great for conversation. It does allow for somewhat of a shared experience, though.

I actually switched us to the CX873, so we are back in 1A/K. I like the timing of this flight and it saves us the cost of a night's hotel stay, so it's better. Hopefully there won't be any further changes b/w now and March.

I believe it will eventually be switched to the 77A also. Isn't the purpose of the 77A is to avoid those winter tech fueling at TPE/ICN that has been hammering LAX/SFO with the 747s?

Indeed people have said that. How long will CX keep the 77A? Is there another replacement aircraft they could use eventually besides the 77A?

The 773 actually does have the range....that is if there's nothing onboard the plane.
