77A to Debut for SFO
Looking through the schedules, beginning Feb 1, 2010 CX870/879 will switch from the 74A to 77A. By then North America will only see one daily 74A - CX872/873. The move is in-line with what has been said in previous posts about NA routes moving to 77As.
Looks like securing F awards to/from NA will be more and more challenging as the downsizing of aircraft for these routes reduces seat capacity from 12 to 9 to 6. |

When they purchased the 77As a few years ago, the intention stated was for the 74As to instead go to Europe. I think they idea was to maximise the LHR slots. That was of course pre-GFC.

I find the air quality on the 777s much better than other planes in CX's fleet, but do lament the greater difficulty in getting into F.

I think the spare 74As will eventually be deployed on the LHR route, I think on the 253/254 rotation(currently 34B)...CX plans to have all 744 service in LHR eventually (of course again pre-financial crisis that was)

However, LAX goes back to 1 74A + 1 B77A (From 2 B77A) in the summer 10 schedule - so it is just a swap to right-size the market.

Uhh........I just downloaded my latest timetable for the season Nov 2009 to February 2010, both still show 744 for SFO. No change.
|
Oh please not that noisy 773. Blaaaah. Give me a 744 (or indeed a 330/340 any day). I don't know how Boeing managed to do it, but wind noise (external - through the air noise rather than fellow passengers ) in the 777 is a lot greater than even in the nose of the 744.

My wife and I had been looking forward to 1A/K on the 744 for our upcoming SFO-HKG flight, but we are now on the 773ER.
Not a huge deal, but there really aren't equivilent seats. I guess we'll go for 1A and 2A. |
There's always the option of using CX873

We prefer 1A/2A, just because there is no-one else on that side of the cabin, so it feels a bit more private. Even with 1D/1K one of you is essentially going to have to exit their suite to talk to the other. With 1A/2A you can just lean over the intervening partition.

I planned to go to HK during Chinese New Year. Just checked the aircraft types for SFO-HKG (depart Feb/9/2010). One flight CX872 uses 74A and the other CX 870 uses 773 accoring to cathaypacific.com
I was shocked to see CX uses 773 ( not 74A nor 77A) to fly 870/879 The 773s are equipped with the old model chairs for J class ( took one time 8 years ago) and the seating layout for 773 shows no F class.. What the hell! Why not 77A? The old business class chair on 773 is not good.. |
