AN225 in YUL

AN225 in YUL
Was around the airport this morning and saw an AN25 took off from YUL. What an impressive view it was to see that mamoth aircraft slowly taking off. I didn't knew that YUL runways could accomodate that monster. Anyway, it make my day!!

We see this aircraft almost every day hanging around the cargo area at YYZ...and I am sure YUL is served by B747s and B777s, as well as A340s, so surely its runways should be good enough for an AN225. But glad to read you had some excitement in your day as a result of this sighting.
I recall one year when this beast was featured at the old Edmonton/Namao Air Show. While it was parked on the tarmac for tours, a part of the inside was set up as a shop and the Ukrainian air crew were selling coats and hats and all sorts of souvenirs of the glory that was once the USSR.

You reminded me of souvenirs my best friend (he's in the military) brought back from Russia when he was on duty during Brian Mulroney's tour of Russia and Scandinivian countries in the late 80's. Toothpaste that tasted real bad and military insignas from USSR were amongst those souvenirs...I still have them, but never used that toothpaste!!

The 225. There's only one that was completed. I saw it at YYC once...
Only one in operations? I certainly would have thought there would be more of them.

Nope, just the one was completed for hauling the Buran (soviet space shuttle) around. The other one is sitting half finished in a hangar somewhere. There are recurring rumors about it being finished someday.
I believe the 225 has only been to YYZ once or twice. It's little sibling the 142 is almost a daily visitor though...

The 225 was used the last time the Canadian Forces deployed DART, (I can't remember where to, Pakistan I think). Did it in one shot. This is the one with 6 engines.
A couple Fridays ago, there were two 124's at YYZ , one parked in the usual cargo area, and the other at the end of 24R waiting to take-off. Also a couple fighter jets came in around 7pm that evening. There's been a 124 parked at YYZ for a few weeks now (didn't notice if it was there tonight, I was too busy looking at the line up of planes waiting to depart 33R LOL). Not sure if it's been coming and going or just sitting there that long. Or maybe broken down.
