We are on day 4 of our quarantine. We got an 800 number robo call checking up on us. It also said to book a time for our day 8 test at Switchhealth. I chatted with Switchhealth and they confirmed you don't do this. You wait till day 8 to log onto Switchhealth and register and line up for the day 8 test.

You can set up the info for the test with them ahead of time. Serial # etc in your account. You still have to call on the day but it does save a lot of time. The Switch Health person who did this for me was great and even offered to call me at 7:30 am to make sure I’d got thru to the nurse. I recommend this if at all possible for you. If there is more than one person to be tested, they can ensure that’s set up in the account, too.

We're now on day 13 of our quarantine. We did our 2nd tests on day 8 and both were delivered to Switch Health by Purolator the morning of day 9. One of the test results came back day 8. We are still waiting for the other test. Lots of calls and emails .... no use. Have to make some decisions tomorrow.
We also got a visit from the local police today. Had a nice chat. The officer was quite interested in how to retire to Florida. Nice guy.

Scroll down on the Order in Council or see the quote below.

if the person does not receive the result for the COVID-19 molecular test referred to in subparagraph 1.4‍(1)‍(a)‍(ii) before the expiry of the 14-day period that begins on the day on which the person enters Canada, remain in quarantine in accordance with the instructions provided by a screening officer or quarantine officer until they receive the test result or for another 14-day period, whichever comes first;

So a screening or quarantine officer will be contacting us?

Unlikely. According to posts only a lucky few get an in-person visit.

Despite only answering the third call from BC authorities and letting first two go to voicemail I had no visits.

1. Are there no available direct flights YYZ-JFK in May 2021? I'm looking at Delta website for May 23, and it shows me only 2 flights, both via DTW, $711 one-way.

2. How long does it take to get a result of a PCR test, taken at JFK?

We took the test at 11am in the booth right at the exit of terminal 5. Free test and asked for the rapid PCR one (was Abbott ID Now) started driving and got the results by email at around 2pm. So about 3 hours to get the results. It's walk-ins only but you can still register online on the NYC Heatlh+ website to save some time when you arrive.

Take this in, compare it to community spread

I just saw this. You have to remember that the international traveler restrictions and repercussions are as much punitive as they are based on science. They are political moves to distract us from the real sources of the spreading virus!!!

To add a recent experience:
- Flew JFK to BUF today (it took longer to get to JFK than it did to fly to BUF, but I digress :)
- Canam driver was at the curb when I walked out (called as I walked off the plane)
- In the car at 4:25, through the border at Peace Bridge at 4:55
- Had printed ArriveCan form and covid test, otherwise normal border questions (where, how long, why)
- Red Cross test done, took 2 minutes. Got the email 'test done' confirm as we pulled away

Very easy all around.

For those with experience making the Peace Bridge crossing, how “mandatory” have they made this test after the border? What does the security/flow look like? Is it possible to just continue onward and bypass it?

it didn’t feel mandatory at all. The kits are given by the border agent, and you could just keep driving past the tent if you wanted to the toll collectors. My driver asked if I wanted to stop or keep going, and said a number of people just take the kit home and do it.

If you plan on taking the test then its a lot easier to do it at the bridge rather than at home. Its really quick.

I crossed at Buffalo / Fort Erie yesterday. There were a few Canadians on my flight to Buffalo and I saw about five airport taxis in the line for immigration at the Peace Bridge. My experience was pretty smooth overall. The CanAm limo driver met me at arrivals and took me across. They were clearly asking people a lot of questions - the guy ahead of me was questioned for over 10 minutes. When I got there, they asked me why I was driving across instead of flying and I told them it was because I have a safe place to quarantine and wanted to avoid the hotel situation. The agent said that they're required to ask this question now of everyone. So I hope it's not so that Doug Ford can bring up our verbatim responses in his next press conference, but I saw no harm in just telling it straight. I had to show my ArriveCAN number (I didn't download the app and just registered online), and my negative COVID test. I also then had to read a statement where I pledged to follow the rules of the quarantine act. I then took the COVID test onsite and was off.

I'm a returning resident and had to declare my goods to follow, so I needed to go to secondary screening to get my documents / inventory checked and stamped for my goods shipment in a couple of months, but outside of that bit, the routine questions took maybe 5 minutes.

I have been to this site off and on over the years when I was traveling frequently for work. When I was researching this trip, I was frustrated by the lack of information without the side helping of judgement on travel / crossing the border in the age of COVID. I really appreciated the GOOD information on this site - it's probably the only place where I found accurate, clear information from people who have done it. Frequent travelers are definitely my people.
