None of the Presidential Proclamations listed apply to the land border restriction with Canada.

The exceptions list does not declare this as air only, it largely appears to the implementation of various proclamations
Additionally if that State Department page applied to Canada (which all evidence suggest it does not), then it means a lot of Canadian citizens flew into the US without an exemption on that page for more than a year including several FT members who has made the trip several times. |

Up to you decide whether it is worth the risk but it's pretty clear the 33 countries listed on State Department page does not include Canada as 7 countries are explicitly listed on that same page and Schengen contains 26 countries (26 + 7 = 33). As indicated in prior post, Canada land border restriction is covered by different regulations posted earlier.

The exception in section two of the Federal register link shows alien spouses of US citizens can enter the US, fairly clearly.

That US spouse exemption applies to the travel ban covering 33 countries. But Canada is not one of the 33 countries on that ban thus the exception wouldn't be applicable.

I shall report back on my success or failure, Yes the register link is refering to various other counties, but they are not going to treat a Canadian spouse any differently than any other alien spouse,

I don't need a support group filled with Twitter idiots with varying claims to US entry. All I want to determine is when my American spouse drives her car to the border with me in the car will they tell her she cannot being her husband to the US after a decade of marriage, countless trips to US together and a year a a half apart from her family.

In summary we presented the following evidence.

Just to circle back, I was glad that I made a back-up testing appointment at Walgreens (which I had to do after midnight on Friday night for a Monday appointment) because CVS cancelled my appointment without warning when their tester didn't show up to work. No problem at the Walgreens in West Lebanon, NH. -- and we got our results back in about an hour by email.

So what are people actually doing to get the required Covid test to enter Canada by land? I've done some more looking at the Walgreens and CVS sites and it seems like a royal PITA. We'll be in Vermont before entering Canada, and it seems impossible to get tested at those chains in VT. We can arrange our schedule to be in Massachusetts within 72 hours of our border crossing so I guess we'll try that. It's also hard to schedule the test in Massachusetts, but if I book early, and am willing to drive to one of the rare stores that is doing it, it seems possible. From prior discussion here, I know that CVS' rapid antigen test is unacceptable. But I assume that if the store I go to is listed as doing a PCR/NAAT test, that's OK? Does anyone know what kind of test that actually is at CVS? I assume it's NOT a deep nasal swab? Any experience getting the results back from CVS in a timely manner? And any alternatives to do this (preferably for free) in VT?
I certainly know why the number of Americans crossing the border is still small. We're planning on going for about 9 days. I'd never go through this hassle for a long weekend. |
I know this probably has been mentioned before but I couldn’t find it on FT or Google: are US citizens driving into the US from Canada also required to get a negative test result beforehand? And could someone post an official source for this?
