My experience was pretty smooth overall. The CanAm limo driver met me at arrivals and took me across. They were clearly asking people a lot of questions - the guy ahead of me was questioned for over 10 minutes. When I got there, they asked me why I was driving across instead of flying and I told them it was because I have a safe place to quarantine and wanted to avoid the hotel situation. The agent said that they're required to ask this question now of everyone. So I hope it's not so that Doug Ford can bring up our verbatim responses in his next press conference, but I saw no harm in just telling it straight. I had to show my ArriveCAN number (I didn't download the app and just registered online), and my negative COVID test. I also then had to read a statement where I pledged to follow the rules of the quarantine act. I then took the COVID test onsite and was off.

I'm a returning resident and had to declare my goods to follow, so I needed to go to secondary screening to get my documents / inventory checked and stamped for my goods shipment in a couple of months, but outside of that bit, the routine questions took maybe 5 minutes.

I have been to this site off and on over the years when I was traveling frequently for work. When I was researching this trip, I was frustrated by the lack of information without the side helping of judgement on travel / crossing the border in the age of COVID. I really appreciated the GOOD information on this site - it's probably the only place where I found accurate, clear information from people who have done it. Frequent travelers are definitely my people.

Couldn’t agree more re FT. Glad you mentioned it.

I, too, had invaluable advice from others thru the various threads and PMs. Made the situation so much easier. Consequently, crossing/quarantine etc was pretty straightforward. I’ve tried to “pay it forward” by passing along to friends who are doing something similar.

What have people seen thus far in terms of time to get their test results from the land borders? I crossed at 5pm on Friday, and my test still says "Processing specimen" on the Switch website ~53 hours later.

Also - for anyone crossing at the Peace Bridge, I assume your dropdown also doesn't show the Peace Bridge as an option, but if I pick 'Rainbow Bridge', I can find my results there. Does everyone see that, or am I just special?

I used the Rainbow Bridge so can’t comment on one of yr questions. Wondering whether the time elapsed reflects the fact it is a weekend. Got my bridge test results in apex 48 hrs.

Just to answer my own question... just got my results, 70 hours post-crossing, so don't freak out if it takes 3 days :)

I crossed Saturday at approximately 1pm and I got my results this afternoon, so just over 48 hours for me.

Has anyone tried this going from Bellingham to Vancouver?

We drove across in a rental car.

Which company did you rent it from? And for how long? I've been looking for one to pick up from SEA airport and drop in Vancouver but I can't find anything.

It's been a couple weeks now, so I'm not sure if they are still doing it, but the Enterprise locations in Seattle were offering O/W to Canada. You had to phone the local office directly, and they could do it. I recommend making a standard reservation, and then phoning the local office and asking them to change your reservation to a O/W booking. The fee should be about $200 USD. We used the downtown location, but others were offering it as well.

If you get delayed and will arrive at the border with an expired PCR test (+72 hours) don't bother trying!

Here's my story trying to cross at Rainbow Bridge after flying into BUF.

Due to travel delays and a 1 hour lineup on the bridge, by the time we got to the agent our PCR test had expired by a few hours. The first agent was extremely rude, and went through 10 minutes of questioning with us before even getting to the PCR test. After seeing our expired test we were handed off to another agent who said we are NOT being denied entry into Canada, but if we enter we will be escorted directly to the public health agent and police who will issue us a $3800 fine per person for not complying with the COVID act requirements. She gave us the option of entering with the fine or returning to the US and getting a new test.

The lineup on the bridge behind us was filled with people in the same boat. She told us she had already turned back over 100 people that day for expired tests and that the public health team will not make any exceptions. Either you are compliant with the COVID requirements (one of those being a valid test within 72 hours) or not. Black and white, no leeway. Crossing back to the American side we met someone who took his PCR test 2 days before but didn't get the results in time and was denied. Lesson: If I ever have to cross again it's clearly worth doing it somewhere that can guarantee 24h results, as opposed to 2-3 days and risking either expiry or not receiving results in time.

Unlike the initial agent, the second agent was kind and told us of where we could get a test done with results within the hour. We took her up on that and tried the walkup test site but but unfortunately it was closed early for Memorial day. When we got to a hotel and showed our passport, the first thing the receptionist asked was "here because you need to do another COVID test?". Apparently they have been getting a ton of cases like this. Our Uber driver also confirmed that he's been driving many Canadians to redo testing.

Certainly not a great experience. Especially for people that have long been double vaccinated, presented a negative test, and clearly pose no health threat. Not even gonna get started on the quarantine.

Thanks for the detailed report bcnfish :tu:

Hopefully the speculation that the quarantine, and especially hotel quarantine will be allowed to expire this month, especially for those of us who have long ago had our second shot. Not holding my breath though :(

can you share the name of the place in Buffalo with the test that comes back in an hour?

WNY Rapid Testing

They have a test specific for Canadian border crossing that costs $225 US with results guaranteed in an hour - not cheap! The process was quick though and we actually received our results in 30 minutes.

We used the Marriott hotel location which is a 30 minute drive from the border, apparently next week they will be opening up a new location much closer. Address unknown but will be up on their site once open.

I wonder what would happen if you are just Canadian and have no US Status. The land border b/w the US and Canada is currently closed, so if the CBSA told you this and you had no right to enter the US due to the Land Border Closure. Would USCBP give you a document saying that you are refused entry and then return you to the CBSA who would have no choice to fine you? I find this a bit unfortunate just because the US Border is closed and you end up with a 3'800CAD fine.
