OSS has nothing to do with the topic being discussed. Baggage issues relate to the ITD agreement between the CBSA and AC. OSS is related to pre-boarding screening standards and is the bailiwick of CATSA. Currently only baggage carried on certain AC and TS flights are inducted into the ITD system.

OP: You will need to collect your baggage on the carousel serving LX86 and provide it to Air Canada after crossing the CBSA exit. Your bag will be tagged to YTZ but will not make it there without your direct intervention. Declare your overage (if any) and visit the CBSA cashier next to carousel 10 to take care of the payment (if required).

Cheers.

So what you're telling me is the fact that OSS at YYZ has nothing to do with ITD? I assumed that OSS required ITD due to the fact that the passenger would not have access to checked bags.

Oooh so if I am over the CAD 800 limit, I just pay at the CBSA cashier next to Carousel 10 and am on my way to the next stage of the transfer process?

Is a connection time of 80 mins sufficient for this process or am I like 90% likely to miss my next flight?

Olrite.. did my trip y'day.
Check-in: pointed out to me that I've to collect luggage in YUL and schlepp it through customs (same info repeated inflight)

But flight was quite late, my net connection was ~20min for all below.
Immigration: arrival gate was A61 (so rather far out). Despite feedback in appstore, I gave the eDeclaration app a try -- and
it did work, the additional "cannabis question" came up on the Kiosk.. scan Passport, take a pic. Get a lousy thermopaper
receipt and off to CBSA officer. What are you here for, how many pcs checked luggage and bam, in there.
More corridor hunting (with directions) to the belt, ~5min later bag in hand and with more directions (signs and in person)
off to the domestic belt or whatever.
More directions to go the gate (A25) .. failed that and found myself landside without realizing I am "leaving".
So after quick prodding reentering via "VIP" security and off to A25.. to find out the flight to YUL is an hour late.

Forgive me, I was not checking airside lounge access :-}

The magic int'l belt - is it a special belt for connecting flights only OR is it the generic belt that everyone picks up their luggage from even if YUL is their final destination? 20 minutes is good! If only I manage things that quickly!

Just to be clear, did you mean the flight to YOW?

You did nothing wrong. By the time you clear customs and place your bag on the connecting baggage belt, you are by default landside. There is no other way.

The latter.

Ah, sorry. Of course the flight to YOW..
You pick the bag from the regular belt and then put it on a "special" one after customs.

So, in the end I needed a bit over 30min from A61 to A25 - with priority lane at the security check. Rushing, but not running.

And to amend the way back (YOW-YUL-MUC-HAM).. YUL arrival gate 32, dept gate 61. No security (actually you just pass right behind the security) and no passport control, but a BP scan if you're actually on an international flight (<1min) and lounge is just some more meters on on the right (around 52).

Weird thing in YOW.. co-traveller on a Y to YUL and C to MUC: almost got denied access to lounge; not because Y ticket, but not on an AC ticket (220/LH stock).

Update for y'all.

I did see the belt for dropping off connecting baggage. Thanks for letting me know there was one before you leave the airport BUT they seriously need to bloody change how this airport functions - it is a NIGHTMARE!

I feel like the French (no offense) have become so lazy they made the airport to be efficient for the operation of it from their perspective, of which the trade-off was dumping the burden on the passenger to do all of the work.

At YYZ if you are inbound from the EU or Japan and transferring to a domestic flight your bags are automatically checked through and also transferred behind the scenes - all you have to do is pass through customs and connect. At YUL, you have to go to an automated kiosk, hand the printout to a CBSA agent (not that many of them as YYZ used to have for example), go pick up your bags, pass through the final CBSA agent, drop your bag, run upstairs to go to 'departures', pass through security AGAIN, and depending on the location of your gate, you could have a super long walk to it. TOTALLY INEFFICIENT!!! Not to mention they have multiple baggage belts but decide to put 4 inbound flights from tourist destinations of high-volume checked-baggage and it took 45 mins for me to get my bloody bags. I managed to make my flight somehow after all that effort but my bags didn't (got stuck waiting for the next flight arrival at YTZ for them to show up).

Air Canada's site says the following about YUL:

Flights from Europe or Japan: You do not need to claim your checked baggage.
https://www.aircanada.com/us/en/aco/...rt/int-ca.html

I don't think you would've had to re-check the bags if all the flights were on Air Canada.

Long shot, but does anyone know if bags have to be collected coming from FDF/PTP on AC with an onwards domestic connection, also on AC?

Neither of those locations are covered by the ITD process unfortunately.
