BA 2 itineraries and checked bags

Looking for advice.
2 separate bookings for travel gla-lhr then lhr-hnd.
BA wouldn’t check the bags in for the whole trip so I’ll have to collect them at T5 and get to T3.
Can I stay airside and if so can I check my bags in at T5 ?

What would best advice be getting over to T3?
Many thanks.

You can't stay airside as far as I know, or check bags at T5, you'll have to collect bags and transfer.

There's a free transfer on the underground (down in the lifts at the far end of T5 arrivals), if you're packing a lot of baggage and can't lug it through the tube (no staircases needed), then probably get a taxi though it's a bit expensive.

This thread will tell you all you need to know about transferring from T5 to T3

If you have to collect bags you will have to go landside. You won't be able to check bags in at T5 for a flight leaving from T3.

Thanks.

any thoughts why BA wouldn’t just check the bags through?

they’ve done it before for me coming back from North America.

this is BA to London then JAL to HND so still part of oneworld.

There used to be a OW policy to check through, but it was disbanded in the middle of last decade and BA no longer check bags through to partner flights. Some other OW members still do.

This thread has more detail
BA no longer through checking baggage with separate tickets

Because you're travelling on separate tickets.

I had also called BA customer services during the week and they told me specifically the agent in Gla could do this.
they clearly lied.

also: last yr I had 2 separate bookings coming back from LAS.
the initial LAS-LAX was non BA then LAX-LHR-GLA was Ba.
At LAS they checked the bags all the way back to Glasgow.

Hi You may get lucky ( I did once at Dubai) and got bags checked through on separate tickets but this is not policy (2016?) and I certainly would not count on vags being checked through. The phone agent gave wrong information unfortunately.

Regards

The agent in GLA can do it, indeed many agents think the policy is nonsense and will do it, but the official policy is customer-unfriendly and to deny it. There have been endless discussions on the whys and wherefors of this and personally I also cannot see any commercial sense but I am not BA.

I have also had connecting flights on separate bookings where these were linked in FLY without my knowledge and while the agent didn’t want to through-check my bag, he would have had some work to override the system so let it go through.

I hate the term ‘lied’ in these forums. That implies the deliberate telling of something known to be untrue. It could be that the agent misunderstood or made a mistake. Not ideal but it happens.

Free transfer on the Heathrow Express too - probably slightly easier with luggage than the underground. Its lifts up and down, so no trouble with stairs or escalators.

If it’s BA policy then he should’ve known it, then he did lie.
Otherwise, it’s deliberate misdirection just to get me off the phone and move to the next call.
Either way it’s non truth and unacceptable.
