Thanks, that makes sense. Makes me a bit wistful for the pre-pandemic schedule...

Hi JackDann - I had a First booking to HKG cancelled for mid August 22 and when I enquired into alternatives the only offer on the table was Cathy J. I asked about a transfer to a destination elsewhere in the region (eg SIN) but that wasn’t something they were prepared to entertain. On this occasion I was reasonably sympathetic to their position.

You can only rebook to somewhere within 300 miles of HKG. Which will not be helpful in the slightest..

It'd update eventually - there are two processes, the first for schedule changes and then a second "crawl" looking for illegal connections. If you want to you can call in and get something else or push them to do the update, but don't forget you've also the right to a refund until you accept. This may be a good option for those holding Japan bookings, especially for this year so don't be too quick to accept/rebook!

That would explain why I got an email to say my BA31 flight in January has added nearly an hour to the block time. I thought it was just going to fly a bit slower!

My BA28 return has been removed from the schedule so I guess it's only a matter of time until BA formally confirm it isn't flying.

Out of curiosity, if BA cancel a HKG flight, is Cathay the default alternative for rebooking?

Thanks. I’m not really in a hurry to do anything and as it’s an Avios booking I am in a good place in terms of being able to get a refund if required.

I’m hoping that any rebooking would result in a change to the later JAL flight.

FYI, issued a new ticket today with earlier flight to be able to connect to BA5. I didn’t need to intervene so everything was automatically done as suggested.

Thanks for the advice, it put my mind at ease while I waited for the new ticket to be issued.

Re the BA5 flight changes, do you think they are only updating the schedule for days that they will operate the flight, and perhaps cancel other days? I have flight times that have yet to be updated, but the adjacent days have.

Not sure. Looking at the schedules on BA.com it looks like they have started the re-scheduled flight times about the middle of November. Everything prior to that from when the flight is due to resume at end of October still shows the original schedule.

There is some flexibility here though - I'm sure they would rather re-route me to SIN than put me in F on EK.

Good to know, thankyou! I think i'm still going to try my luck on booking HKG in F and if they cancel then i'll just book up on EK and let BA pay the bill.

What period does the winter timetable cover? Got to go to MCO early March and would rather not trek all the way down to LGW, so may fly somewhere else first.
