I actually saw an A380 specific liveried maintenance truck at T5A today, so they must need it. Presumably 18 months in the Spanish deserts mean lots of teething problems. Would be interested to hear economics of operating them nowadays (even against the old RR 747s) vs say a 773. 4 engines on 2000’s technology must be a drain.

Based on FR24 data, it appears that 8 of 12 frames are currently in service: G-XLEA,C,E,F,G,H,I,K,L.
And I believe there are six daily A380 departures (am I missing any?): 10:25 = ORD (BA 295) 11:15 = BOS (BA 213) 13:30 = MIA (BA 209) 14:00 = SFO (BA 287) 17:10 = IAD (BA 293) 17:15 = YVR (BA 85) In theory, eight frames should be sufficient for this schedule, but there must be quite a few tech issues cropping up: per FR24, neither XLEL nor XLEI has flown in the last few days. (And with just six frames, operations are clearly going to be fragile.) I imagine that YVR / IAD, being the last departures of the day, are extra susceptible to delays (all other things being equal). |
I’m on the Saturday 11th June 84 back from YVR and it’s already reporting a 1:35 min delay, so putting my connection up to EDI at risk. At what point will BA decide to auto-change me to the next flight connection or will they wait and see the possible landing time of the 84 first? Just concerned that with Flight Connections /Border /Security delays I’d never make it even with 1 hr).

Ugh I was wondering why the Dulles 292/293 A380 flights were showing so many delays. Yesterday was the worst I have seen yet 293 arrived at IAD 3:26 late (left LHR 3:41 late) and 292 (currently still in the air) Left IAD 3:39 late and is scheduled to arrive 3:33 late today. Going to be flying 292 a week from today.

I am pretty sure the A380 that didn't fly on Wednesday night due to electrical issues is still in Boston - I definitely saw a BA A380 sat by an AA maintenance shed at 6am Boston time.

And tomorrow's 85 now showing on time.

Tomorrows 293/292 Dulles rotation was cancelled, so that may be helping recover the schedule. 217/216 was upguaged to a 77W.

My thoughts too. Already a 6 hour delay flagged for tonight. How much will that cost in compensation?
Without me on it... because I made a last minute booking on Lufthansa to get home. I would have missed my connection at Heathrow and I had to get home no matter what. Requested a FTV about 5 hours before scheduled departure. Haven't seen any email confirmation, so not only does BA avoid EC261 compensation with me, but they will probably simply claim that I no-showed... |
The FTV is date stamped at the BA end, and I imagine you have screen shots at your end too. You won't get the EC261 component for delay, because you were not delayed on the flight in question, but you do get EC261 for the refund cancellation since the flight was more than 5 hours delayed. You don't need to accept an FTV or eVoucher, you can have cash.
|
Not the YVR flight but the 287/286 (SFO) on the 13th is showing a delay too, also an A380. Couple days out though so I’m sure this will change otherwise my connection is looking rather tight!

For the amount in question, BA vouchers are pretty close to cash for me. But it's nice to know that I am entitled to a cash refund when I finally get through to BA... |
BA292 (A380) from Dulles last night (well really this morning by the time it left) was 4:09 late departing despite the inbound 293 being "only" an hour-ish late.
|
Tonight's BA 85 left 4 hours late from LHR. Someone up-thread said that things would get better....seemingly not! Now concerned for my departure on Thursday....
