Well if £4 on a shop is "a lot more expensive than Tesco", you're right

The Nectar Mastercard for 10K points £400 spend in two months in Sainsbury's/Argos does spring out as the first thing to do, so I just did it. You have to have held a nectar card for 6 months.

Lovely, that's another 70k Avios coming my way then, that retirement travel fund is really starting to build up...

On paper it's a poorer conversion rate than Tesco based on supermarket spend (i.e. 400 Avios rather than 600 per £250 spent), but the reality is that extra/bonus nectar points are handed out like sweets, so as long as that continues this will be a far more lucrative source of Avios for me...

Amusingly, on the app there's a search function for types of partners. I entered "fin" looking for financial partners and BA popped up. Clicking on it leads to "Ben's Ice Cream" 400 scoops for 1600 nectar points, clearly a disguised test site for avios and transfers. May lead to some discoveries I suppose?

£4 a week is over £200 a year - so two or three free shops a year at Tesco.

And the test page is offering 400 scoops (i.e. avios) per 250 nectar points, which is reversed from how HfP has it and more closely aligned with Tesco rates. That would change the equation on spend significantly. Any comment Raffles

One other thing - as long as this partnership endures, and specifically allows perfect two way flow, it's going to be difficult for IAG to unilaterally devalue Avios, because people will simply cash out. It would require coordinated action with Nectar to maintain some sort of equilibrium. And for any lawyers on here, I'd be curious if competition law could come into play here...

by the way, excellent articles by Raffles - and agree we are only scratching the surface right now... my initial thought is that the current conversion rate won't be sustainable for long without introducing some element of spread... but we'll see...

Worth noting in your calculations that Nectar have a lot more earning exclusions than Tesco - you don't get points on your whole shop.

Be wary of that! I've just found my Nectar account closed with all the points lost as I had not used it for over a year. Called and no sympathy given.

Good. I can now spend my stash of Nectar points which has been building up since Expedia stopped taking them.

If anything, i was worried once Tesco stopped doing it that i couldnt get the "cheap" avios deals to mainland europe because i havent flown with BA in over a year.

I am happy about this because i have a TON of nectar points that i have never ever used.
