I must have mistakenly thought that AA mile could be transferred to Avios like Ultimate Rewards (with CSR) could be.

OK, so use them for one way DSM-CZM on BA.com (top up with UR if needed) and then use AA miles AA.com for the return

You cannot transfer AA miles to any other airline including BA.

They do (having very recently done this), but you've got to call up and go through the individual flights, using the AA flight numbers and fare class.

Was there a BA flight also involved in the itinerary? The OP and others were asking/commenting on BA selling commercial AA flights with no BA flights involved.

so can you sign in to your BAEC account and use the avios to book reward flights? SFO777’s post upthread shows availability.

Alternatively use your aa miles to book the flights on aa.com.
