1 hour rule
If you are holding for 1 hour you will normally be cut off. Normally, the 1 hour cut-off doesn't happen if you are actually speaking to someone, it's only if you are holding. But if you get through to someone just before the hour, make sure you tell them that you are coming up to the 1 hour point and they will then note your number if you do get cut off and call you back.
Good times to call
The UK lines open at 8am. If you try to get in the queue before 8am you will get a message saying that the call centre is closed, so it's best to dial at exactly 7.58am. The introduction message talking about data policy etc. lasts for just over a minute, so by 8am you should get to the "to change your flight press 1" menu. To change a flight booked with Avios, flight only, the options are 1,1,1 so as soon as your phone says it's 8am, hit the 1,1,1. You probably won't get through immediately but you probably will get through before being cut off at the 1 hour mark.

Rebooking for Avios booking (Easter2020-2021)
I had by Avios booking converted to a voucher, then had to call once flights were open to rebook (flying back Easter Monday so needed to get in before Avios availability went.).
Called 0800 727 800 (2+1) about 30 times during the day getting the busy comments every time, and finally at 8.30pm got put in the queue. When call went to connect (after 30 mins approx.) I got cut off. Phoned back at 9.06pm, and went straight to the queue, and was answered after about 20 mins by very helpful staff member, who changed my ''voucher' to a confirmed booking etc. as I had wanted.
Slightly frazzled staff member told me she was working till 1am, and they all are working from home, which is perhaps why some calls get dropped when moved from the waiting queue to the actual person.
First question was for BAEC number to check you are on the right line, even though as silver I was having to call on the everybody line.
Hopefully I managed to cheer staff member up a bit, and told them I was appreciative of their help. They said they had actually had 'urgent' calls asking how many avios people had in their account etc, and other calls that can be done on BA.com

Phoned @09:00 EST this morning. Waited 30 minutes then was told she only dealt with cash bookings. She transferred me to an “Avios” number and then it just cut off.
I wanted to find out how I could re book my LHR- MAN connection that had been cancelled. As far as I know there is only one flight to MAN per day atm. Arriving from BOS on 23rd April.
Does anybody have info about MAN schedules?

Immediate connection with call centre this morning. In the USA trying to sort out my cancelled LHR - MAN connection. I explained I could fly out of MIA -BOS-LHR the next day in order to get a connection back to MAN.
Th e very pleasant girl was confused and said that she didn’t think BA were flying passengers back to the U.K.
I have flights on 22 April but will be stuck in the USA if she is correct. Can anyone clarify the situation?

This sounds like it become unnecessarily complicated. Just ask to be rebooked on 23 April, flights are operating for those who have legitimate reasons to travel and in any event it's not for a Contact Centre to do any filtering on rationale. If all else fails, stick to the original date and take the train to Manchester instead.
