COPY of Post 1 (from wilsnunn) for if the thread gets too long:

How much of the BA flight network does the BAEC FlyerTalk community fly in 2020?
It was suggested in another thread (see here: Any Gaps in our collective knowledge?) that it would be a fun/interesting task to see how much of the whole BA network of flights we as a community here on FlyerTalk actually fly in a given year.

After a bit of discussion in the afore mentioned thread, we came up with the idea of a Google Sheets document to track flights taken by the community.

If people here are genuinely interested in persuing this task then I am sure that it would lead to some very interesting results.

Rules:
  • You must only edit the Google Sheet when not logged into your own Google account (personal/business etc) so as to remain anonymous to the community (and to me the owner of the Google sheet using a new account that is not being used for anything else)
  • You can only add your flight to the list once you have flown it (incase of IRROPS, change of plans etc)
  • You have to have flown on the flight using its BA flight number
    • This means that if you flew on BA113 but were ticketed as AA6134 for example this should not be included
    • This also means that if you have flown QR1 but it was actually ticketed as BA7001 this should be included
In addition to when the route is first flown in the year, this could give some insight into the most popular routes for the members of the community here, as such there is a counter built into the spreadsheet (a simple COUNTA() function) so even if you are not the first to fly that route and want to participate in this experiment, it would be great to see how popular certain routes are.

The Google sheet is here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...vid=1896029868

Obviously this will not be of interest to everybody but for those who are interested, I hope that this proves to be a fun and interesting experiment.

Note: if you wish to participate but wish to add an extra level of anonymity on top of your FT username, then please feel free to assign yourself another pseudonym and participate that way.

If you have any questions then please let me know.

My post from the afore mentioned thread for reference:

I suggest people opening in an "In Private" window thus keeping their personal Google accounts out of it.

What a year we picked to do this 😂.

wilsnunn I think we will need a 2021 version to actually see where/how often we all fly.

Good to see that after 15 weeks with a grand total of 9 flights having been added, so far this week 23 have been added. Here is to hoping that now travel is returning to a somewhat normal activity, more flights will gradually be added over the coming weeks and months.

Just writing this post to bring the thread back from the depths of page 26, so that I can find it more easily now that I have entries to put in, at last !!

I've just put my summer flights in. Two new flight numbers on there too. BA1414 and BA1434.

I've just added a BA2562/BA679 pair.

Perhaps we should start a new one for who had the most cancelled flights

I'd forgotten about this thread. That said, I haven't got any new flights to add to the spreadsheet. It's six months to the day since I last set foot on an aircraft - unbelievable! However, unless something changes in the next few days, I have a flight to Hamburg planned for next week (EZ).

I've just added my 2nd round trip of the year from last month, and have one more potential 2020 trip to go next month, if quarantine roulette works out. Definitely worth trying this again in a better year.

A suggestion for the 2021 edition, we could also keep track of the airframes most flown.
With the members providing flight numbers and dates, it shouldn't be difficult to find which BA aircraft is flown the most by our community.

Happy to look into doing something like this however unless there is a suitable API which I can work into the spreadsheet, it could be quite a lot of effort to keep checking/adding etc.

You are right that it might require manual entry for each flight.
It could be a bit time consuming, however, it shouldn't take that long to check the registration of the aircraft through a third party website like Flightaware, Flightradar24, etc... if an average of 80-100 flights is reported per week. I also assume that most people would be co-operative checking the registration by themselves.

Same, I wasn't able to fly BA this year ( 2020 ). Though, I had cancelled flights.
