Personally I would do a trip to BCN, using the shuttle from MAD, so LON-MAD-BCN and back. Do check fare buckets to ensure you get your 40 TPs, I think it is still the case you get 20TPs for the shuttle if in J. Be cautious with Y fares as TPS can be as low as 5.

Do you always travel together? If so, does it matter if only one of you is Silver? If that's enough to get you the benefits you would like to have, then why don't you ask for a geek pass and do the qualification flights by yourself? You also halve the cost of getting Silver.

Sounds like that effectively rules out travelling with kids, as the silver can only guest one, leaving the kids alone.

Hence the question as to whether one Silver would be enough. If it isn't, then more domestic work is likely to be needed.

In future years, pick up your Qatar flights from Oslo or similar and book BA flights to get you there. You'll get two BA flights and save a packet on the QR itinerary.
