Personally I would do a trip to BCN, using the shuttle from MAD, so LON-MAD-BCN and back. Do check fare buckets to ensure you get your 40 TPs, I think it is still the case you get 20TPs for the shuttle if in J. Be cautious with Y fares as TPS can be as low as 5.

As being able to get away with no kids is tricky I was thinking of trying to book a couple of nights away but undertake 4 flights in one hit. Now I dont mind flying so doing two short hops to a European destination for a long weekend is fine for me but for Mrs 225 she "just wants to get there". Trying to explain the benefits of being silver also falls on deaf ears..

Do you always travel together? If so, does it matter if only one of you is Silver? If that's enough to get you the benefits you would like to have, then why don't you ask for a geek pass and do the qualification flights by yourself? You also halve the cost of getting Silver.
