unfortunately BA still cancelling flights. I checked the board about 10-15 min ago and it showed no cancellation after 15:50. I checked just now and it is showing an another 8-10ish up until 17:00.
i guess this is going to be the case for the rest of the day...

BA should update the website message which is clearly an understatement of the situation.

"We are experiencing some systems problems today which are affecting check-in and flight departures"

The plan was, once all systems were upgraded, they would rebuild the direct connections and retire the SIP.
That is not correct. The SIP was not intended as an interim and then to rebuild all the direct connections afterwards, it was the master plan for all future integrations.

Yes, it is a single point of failure and has repeatedly failed. The answer to that, as has already been stated, is to ensure it has the resilience required for the job it is implemented to do which is clearly hasn't.

The biggest key is having realable testing environments which mirror the actual production environment. The other key is monitoring so you proactively take actions before failur happens.

I was interested to see that the plan is to revert to point to point integration, if you have put in place a SIP system it makes much more sense to ensure it is robust and fit for purpose.
This means maintaining one access point for each system rather than a tangled web.
That was exactly the plan - to move to a Service Oriented Architecture, of which the SIP was the underpinning platform. It was never intended to be interim.

Is that still the plan?

Just arrived in the First Lounge, the terminal wasn’t as chaotic as I was expecting, and was through to the lounge in 5 minutes - HBO. The lounge agent stated the systems are back up now so hopefully some good news.

I’ve just had a chat with a lounge agent. Apparently the system is back but “a bit slow” so I guess there is some improvement. However what does it mean for later flights no one know.

Will passengers start to think that BA is becoming one of the less reliable airlines? Repeated IT failures are not the hallmark of a reliable company.

Like taxis, I just need airlines to get me from A to B as advertised. I was caught in the data-loss issues BA had, and have been disrupted by this and previous IT issues. I must admit that I have now reached the stage of preferring the Virgin & Delta partnership for my travel needs and only fly BA where they are the most efficient option or to burn Avios.

A reminder that BA's 2018 annual report identifies the following risk:

IT systems and IT infrastructure BA is dependent on IT systems for many of its key business processes. The failure of a critical system may cause significant disruption to operations and result in lost revenue. With the increased integration within our supply chain, we are dependent on the performance of our own suppliers’ IT infrastructure as well as those of other third parties e.g. airport baggage operators. System controls, disaster recovery and business continuity arrangements exist to mitigate the risk of a critical system failure. The Group continues to work with world class partners and is increasing resilience by implementing agreed plans which include investing in new technology, updates and a robust operating platform.
I hope investors and analysts starting increasing the pressure on the airline over this, as at the moment I would feel more confident booking a time critical short haul trip on U2 than on BA (for various reasons, one of which is the various IT meltdowns).

BA728 was the LHR-GVA flight this morning that was cancelled. I think you meant BA278 SJC-LHR which is now at LGW.
BA132 is at CWL (Cardiff) and not BRS
