Welcome to the thread. This is a continuation of the highly popular 2018 Tier Point thread (found here). We keep track of other prices, as well as useful reference information for those planning tier point runs.

Please read the first few posts in this thread first as it contains lots of information which may answer your question.

This is a community-maintained wiki post. Please add important information to it or correct outdated information by clicking the "Edit" button below.

A new guideline thread for TP meetups has been created on 31 March 2020. If you would like other members to join your TP, or if you want to organize a TP run with other members. Please visit there. From the first few posts over there you could see the active ( confirmed ) TP meetings and the links to their relevant discussion threads, connect with other members and learn the details about the run. Click here to access that thread.

Please remember to:
  • Convert currencies to GBP, rounding to the nearest pound.
  • Post full routes and full booking classes.
  • Note any restrictions on booking in the Notes section.
  • List in order of price per tier point within the relevant departure area.

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post 4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread (here), MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and return on Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

Sorry to bother you, but how can I book the flights found on ITA/Google Flights? Google flights shows the aa.com link and am redirected to the booking page. However, when completing the booking, it always says "Something went wrong" and doesn't let me complete the booking. Then I choose exactly the same flights on aa.com or expedia, I never see the same price. I eventually booked the itinerary by paying $250 more.

I had never had any problems with aa.com, what happened to their flight search? Also, prices found on ITA/Google flights are real? I played with some other routings and aa.com never allowed me to proceed, always "Something went wrong" in red.

Ah, that is why I don't book through travel agents anymore See below for my preferred option...

For AA flights (fare code starts with AA) bookwithmatrix.com -> copy paste the contents of the ITA matrix page -> wait for the magic to happen -> click the down arrow on the "Book with.... " button, and select "Book with American" and here you go. It doesn't always work - some fares disappear quicker than ITA can update them, or some just fail to price with this method, but it worked for all the TP runs I took.

To book other airlines, I create a multi-city itinerary with Google flights, and book using one of their links. Again, doesn't always work but when it didn't, there was no working alternative I could find.

Trust me, I preferred to book with the airline too, but when I used bookwithmatrix tool, Priceline was the only option (perhaps it was due to inventory drying up at that point) :P

Over the weekend I have been looking into various options to the US west coast in November.
My usual routings are something like ARN-HEL-LHR-IAD-LAX-SFO return and ITA has found them albeit not the best price.
This morning though, all the earlier routes I've tried have been shortcutted to LHR-LAX or wherever else BA or AA fly direct. I'm presuming there aren't any deals at the minute but that seems most strange.
Even the HNL flights I'd investigated now just say no flights found!

I'm looking for around 900tp in November, have I missed something, got a problem with my cache or can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Cheers

I think we only have the AA offer at the moment, which is basically from INV. Even that seems to be drying up, although I booked INV-LHR-JFK-LAX-LAS this morning for £1400. Last week I could finish at LHR but trying that today added £1k to the price!

My waiting window for TP runs is usually up to 3 months before the flight. I'd wait until August for a better deal and only after that book something that's not a great price. Nothing that I know of that would suit you, but keep your eyes peeled for a deal to the West Coast

She called the AA Support team and then told me the 55 minutes change is not significant and the system doesn't allow her to rebook. The new flight would have arrived about 2 hours earlier than the original pre-change. However, it seemed that connections other than LAX / SFO such as ORD, CLT or DFW were ok.

Is this a "Hang up and call again" or am I out of luck here? What other options do I have?

Thanks in advance.
Did you call a US desk or did you get routed to what is in essence the Iberia call centre who handle a number of AA calls from Europe ?

Ive found Spanish sounding agents not based in the US handling AA calls to be as woeful an experience as calling Iberia....Call the US number and try again.....

Being a bit lazy going into the Easter break, apologies.

Through some accident of misidentification, I got a recognition award from work. It turn out I can convert this either into £550 of OTA vouchers (including flights), 54000 avios, or £550 of hotel vouchers.

I'm inclined to take option A and turn them into TPs, probably next TP year which starts Feb 8th. And looking for ideas really, obviously I know I can likely do an OTP from LHR via LUX for 360TP for about £600, but is there anything more interesting anyone can think of? I don't mind at all running over the top of the £550 providing the total TP haul is economical. Ideas welcome. I would expect I can book with pretty much any airline using the vouchers, at more or less the same price as the airline.

This isn't a tier point run as such, but I'm looking to go BOS-DEL; DEL-NCL; NCL-BOS in First all on one ticket. I'm looking to May 28 and return about two weeks later (dates are flexible). When I do BOS-DEL; DEL-BOS then the price is $4,436, however when I add the two NCL legs, the price is ~$12,000. I used to be able to do this where the price only went up about $200. It seems that the reason is because of the stopover in NCL. I can do BOS-DEL: DEL-LHR; LHR-BOS and the price does not change much.

Is there anyway around this? Or any creative suggestions? It seems that I will have to book a separate LHR-NCL-LHR ticket and this makes me nervous.

Any help would be appreciated

That sounds interesting but I can't seem to work out how you can get 360 TP from flights to OTP from LHR via LUX. Am I missing something?
Please can you enlighten me as to the routing for this?

Don't do it all on one ticket?

Others will be along shortly to provide more more useful commentary!

Assuming the OP is planning something like:

Ticket 1 Positioning LHR-LUX//LUX-LHR 80 TP
Ticket 2 Main LUX-LHR-OTP-LHR-LUX 240TP

If looking at 80TP sectors, I can recommend Malta. Mrs T and I were there in February, just after a major storm hit the island. Weather was fine for us, with only a couple of overnight thunderstorms.

Congrats on the award - and commiserations to the intended recipient

It's all one ticket. JER-LGW (evening of the "preceding" day) then LHR->LUX (overnight) ->OTP (i.e. LUX-LHR-OTP) (overnight) OTP->LUX (reverse) LUX->LHR

It comes out at around £600 and you can PP it to pay for the positioning to JER in Y, which is currently stubbornly refusing to offer a POUG. I mentioned it somewhere above, so worth a thread search for the details if it takes your fancy. You find it in google flights by looking for LUX->OTP prices and then expand either side, it's bookable on BA multiflights directly.

Malta is certainly an option (my great uncle F. H. M Maynard was AOC Med there in 1940, great story there). I was also vaguely wondering about Russia and S7 as I've never been there or flown with them.
