Welcome to the thread. This is a continuation of the highly popular 2018 Tier Point thread (found here). We keep track of other prices, as well as useful reference information for those planning tier point runs.

Please read the first few posts in this thread first as it contains lots of information which may answer your question.

This is a community-maintained wiki post. Please add important information to it or correct outdated information by clicking the "Edit" button below.

A new guideline thread for TP meetups has been created on 31 March 2020. If you would like other members to join your TP, or if you want to organize a TP run with other members. Please visit there. From the first few posts over there you could see the active ( confirmed ) TP meetings and the links to their relevant discussion threads, connect with other members and learn the details about the run. Click here to access that thread.

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post 4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread (here), MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and return on Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

I would appreciate some ideas for US runs in mid-February. At this stage, I'm looking at origins including LAX, SLC/ABQ, JFK and BDL (Hartford) as my actual likely destinations. However, I have a few days up my sleeve and I'm fairly mobile. Ideally, I'd like upwards of 400 TPs (actually, Qantas SCs, but I think the bands are much the same).

The best I've found so far are ONT-DFW-PNS-CLT-TPA for 180 (SCs) and USD559 and LAX-PHL-MIA-SJU for 200 (SCs) and USD380. That's in addition to the recent suggestions above ex-NYC (e.g. LGA-PHL-CLT-RDU return) which I was able to find on 11 February for USD283.90 and 240 SCs.

Did you book this with BA or AA or an agent? I found a portland route on google flights with BA long hauls and number of AA flights. It said to call BA to book for around £1500, called them and they told me they cannot include AA flights in a booking that do not have a BA codeshare. Clicked through GF to book online with AA and when I got to the seat selection and checkout, all the flights were showing as economy instead of business. Tried the multi city seach several times on AA to build the flights manually but it keeps coming back "something went wrong, try later"

BA can definetely book an itinerary with BA and AA flights on it.
BA Holidays require BA flight numbers only.

Hi, I was due to be spending a couple of days with a friend in Oxford, however plans have changed as she has to travel. I'm arriving in from LIS about 15.30 on 30th Jan and fly out to Mex on 1st Jan.

I'm looking at potential TP runs from LHR on the 31st, but only thing coming in reasonable is TIRANA for 220 GBP or close, however, it's not a viable B2B as far as I understand.

I'm looking ideal to bag a double TP route, but open to other combinations. Any ideas what I could do to bag 80-160 TPs that day?

Thanks a lot

HEL is coming in at £392 - not amazing value but gets you the 160 TPs you want. Leave 7.55am and arrive back at 3.05pm.

SOF, ATH and IST all more expensive.

Yeh, not the best at that price.

I'm looking at some other options. Seeing Venice for approx 130, but only nets 80, but still, much better value per TP. Plus could spend some hours in Venice for lunch and make more of a trip of it.

I noticed Tirana has 3.05h stop in between the outbound and inbound. Only fear is that it the outbound goes out late and left with no time to clear immigration and do the land-based checkin as there is no online checkin I believe. I'll keep monitoring prices and perhaps they'll come down a little

Nephoi's itinerary was finalised with advice/assistance from me, based on his limitations and wishes. I do wish to underline that it's just one out of hundreds of cominations that are doable. I do not recommend being a copycat, because it requires a little more effort. In case one is inexperienced, it's best to remember: KISS. Over time one becomes more seasoned in this.

The issue has been that you probably didn't have both Transatlantic flights with a flight number from the ticketing carrier. The Joint Venture fares between Europe and North America require that the ticketing carrier from the JV (AA, BA, IB and AY) is booked on both the out- and inbound leg over the Atlantic (TATL). Other than that, you shouldn't have issues with AA flight numbers on a BA ticket. Just call the ticketing carrier with your itinerary and do a multicity booking over the phone. Do however first look in Matrix that the fare is on both the in- and outbound from the same carrier, prior to calling. Then the selection of flights will be doable.

totally forgot to mention that. obviously unintended: Thank you so much. Without your help and insight I wouldn't have found the itinerary. I got a few messages and could assist at least once in how to get such itineraries from the matrix and what kind of input to the matrix is needed. as stated somewhere else: it is a wonderful feeling to give something back to this friendly, helpful and decent community. its rare to find people like you in these days.

Hope this helps someone probably not the best 800TP £1500 £1.88/TP works for me due to time needed. Can be found for slightly cheaper via lax if you can stay for 1-2 days longer in phx.
Priced up using ITA.
