Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post #4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread, MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

I’ve used this method many times, without issue.
I wound up having to book this via the BA call centre as the online option wouldn't accept my AMEX.
I asked the agent about dropping the bags as per your suggestion and he said it's not possible - they have to be checked in at AMS. Is this a policy change?

Can someone please help me with some flight for May/June next year please.

This isn't 100% a TP Run however we are planning a trip for next year where I'd like to maximise our TP earning.

Something along the lines of...

London to California somewhere.

Then we'll drive the USA and fly from New York back to London.

Can anyone help please?

Thank you in advance.

What class, how many passengers, do you have GUFs/Avios to upgrade, and what's your budget? I am feeling generous for helping today

Thank you so much. I'm literally banging my head with this!

Two passengers. Both currently BA Silver. Business but happy to try first for the first time.

Cash purchase although we both have 80k Avios in our account to use if needed.

THANK YOU!!

Don’t believe everything that a BA phone agent tells you. Often people on here know much more than they do, and the agent is unlikely to really know what happens at the airport.

Droping bags at LHR before doing your B2B at AMS is certainly possible. I did it recently for a similar trip without any issue. Many others have also done this.

When calling up also detail the flight you want as it was displayed on Matrix - this is important. So if flight 2 was entered as LHR-LAX via JFK then ask the agent for LHR-LAX and then detail the flights you want. There is a limit to the number of individual flights that can be entered into the AA system.

And of course Point Of Sale is Luxembourg.
Just called AA and with no luck, it appears that their system does not allow for additional sector between SFO-LAX v.v. which means its fail to book

AA has a number of 3-segment one way fares in I along the east coast, as they have hubs in NYC, PHL, DCA and CLT. 120 TP, and if you are flexible on cities and days you can get it for about US$275. Maybe drive to the Southeast and then fly your way back to NYC? RIC, CHS, TPA, and RDU are frequent origins.

i expect you’re right. It’s a question of whether or not I have the courage to test it or just play it safe and go the night before.
Thanks so much for all the advice.

I know it takes a leap of faith to trust the word of someone behind a keyboard, especially when it’s contradicted by BA staff.

It won’t happen, but if they insist you must fly the AMS to LHR leg, you still have the option of left luggage (or the boot of your car if you choose short term parking)

I had an agent swear on his mothers life 2 mornings ago as I called to book the return leg of a 355 advanced return leg of a companion voucher booking. I missed the flight so told the agent I would call the USA number at 1 the following mornig to snag the following day’s flight. Not possible under any circumstances he said.

18 hours later, said call made and seats booked in less than 7 minutes........

There is nothing wrong with saying I don’t know but this constant miss information is unnecessary and makes them look rather silly.

Have an upcoming booking ex AMS. However the long haul sector from LHR is from T3. Does that mean I would have to go to T3 to drop the bags for that sector (the LHR-AMS flight would of course go from T5)? Doubt they would check in the bags at T5 just for the LH sector but would appreciate confirmation. Thanks

Yes, you'll need to drop these bags at T3.

Definitely is OK to do this. I’ve flown LHR-ARN, then started an Ex-EU with ARN-HEL-LHR gone home for the night and then checked a bag at Heathrow the next day for what is the 3rd segment of a flight, it’s completely normal and not even mentioned. Coming back and getting your bag short checked is a different story, it’ll be tagged to your final destination.

On a similar note I was recently trying to book an ex-EU with car hire online (so making it a BA holiday) and kept getting an error message whatever payment card (AMEX, M/C, VISA) I tried. On ringing the BA Gold line and attempting to book it over the phone I was told it couldn't be done as the journey was starting outside the UK and could only be booked online. Surely not?

Sorry I'm confused - how are you adding another sector between SFO-LAX and where to? I was particularly referring to JFK-LAX where I would specify JFK-LAX and then ask for the flights via SFO to make JFK-SFO-LAX.

Could you detail what you're trying to put together? If it prices up in ITA matrix it should be possible to book.

BA UK can't book flights/holidays with a different Point Of Sale (POS). So I think you need to call the BA number for the specific EU country you're looking to start from.

This was my case before when trying to book an ex-OSL fare to SYD. We couldn't work out why it wasn't pricing correctly and then the agent confirmed it was based on UK POS. I phoned BA Norway and booked it then.

Now you may ask an obvious question - BA's website isn't located in every country around the world, so how come the 'website' has access to all those different Points Of Sale and yet agents don't?
