Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post #4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread, MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

I used Powertools to book mine today and clicked it through to the AA European site rather than US. Priced up fine.

It's basically a script that you add to your browser; when you use ITA Matrix, that script enables booking links to transfer your result into an airline - and/or OTA - booking website, where you just have to add your info and pay. I find it way better than bookwithmatrix, especially for ex-EU bookings.

More info here ITA-Matrix-PowerTools - Userscript for Orbitz/DL/UA/AA/BA/CZ/IB/LA/LH/LX/TK

just follow the method I noted in this post. Once that’s done next time you get a quote on itamatrix you will see a lot of links on the right, that will link you through to aa.com

In the past, I've found using the 'Resolve timezones" button before clicking through to the uk AA site helps

I need to stop looking at this thread until I actually have some time to go about getting these deals! Those J deals look great but I just can't be dealing with spending all that time on the phone to get them. =/

They are all boookable via AA.com - why would you need to spend time on the phone?

TP Run from NYC to PHL

Hi,

I am trying to do a TP run from NYC to PHL departing on 18 Jan. This is the best I can come up with so far:

Any suggested improvements are most welcome as currently I can only achieve £2.2 per TP.

Also is it too risky to have hold luggage for this type of trip?

Thank you

On one ticket you should find it all gets checked through, but obvious risks of misconnections and lost bags. If you need more stuff than will fit in a carryon plus backpack then maybe risk it. But the size of the carryons in domestic F suggests not many bother.

Have you tried adding a return leg in? Sometimes makes it cheaper even if you don't take it.

I know its not really in the spirit of flyertalk.. but... Newark to Phili is a very easy train journey.
You could look at taking a flight on the Friday from EWR to anywhere in the US that will give you £2 per TP or better. returning to EWR on the Saturday morning. jump on a train, and get to Philadelphia in the same time-frame.

I need to stop looking at this thread too... I have two TP runs booked for March/April next year which will get me to Gold so I don't need any more TPs for 2019 but I am still daily looking here to see what deals people are finding. Why I don't know because I probably won't be doing any more TP runs for a while (only exception is if I can get a very cheap ex-EU to SIN). Just fascinated with what can be done I guess... and a fair bit of dreaming and wishful thinking too I expect.

Don't suppose I will stop... I enjoy it too much!

Does that make me a bit of a sad fellow? Perhaps I should get another hobby!!!

Hi All - I am trying to book 17 APR ARN HEL/ 18 APR ARN-LHR/ 19 APR LCY - MIA/ 24 APR MIA - JFK/ 25 APR JFK - ARN

AA.com keeps giving me this message " You can't book connecting flights as individual flight segments. Please change your flight search "

Could someone please explain what I am doing wrong and how to correct it?

Also -is there any way that w can take the day flight 25th APR from JFK - LHR and the LHR - ARN the next day?

I am sure that I have booked individual sectors in the past - any help would be most gratefully received.

Just like you snaxmuppet... 3 TP runs plus several mad weekends from the Iberia promotion lined up already for the new TP year and still I lurk here looking for more... Too much is never enough? Just had to stop myself booking yet another ARN-MIA trip... I'm sure there is a PhD to be written on the gamification of airline travel programs (or maybe it has?).
But life is short and we are happy. Travel on!

Thank you for the suggestions. I did a few searches on NYC return, the best that I can find is to go to PHX instead of LAS, but the price per TP is only marginally better. Also the timing of the flights are not as good.
