Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post #4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread, MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

Three long haul return trips in J on BA as a couple would cost £900 in seat reservations, plus the extended routes of a dub jfk lax could earn 25k avios valued to buy at £375.

That does not include extra avios earned on silver or any champers or food consumed when flying in Y or W otherwise.

Hi,

Was looking at the YVR-PTY TP run, especially atttactive given 840TPs for £550! However, it doesn’t seem to price and it says on ITA that there is a 2 stopover/ transfer limit. Just to confirm, that means it’s gone, right? Unless anyone else has been having any more success?

And also, is anyone aware of any other TP runs that would net 400 or so TPs in North America that are in some way linked to Las Vegas (that will allow a 2 day stopover there).

Thank you.

Yes, fares to PTY now have the 2 transfer limit. Hopefully it doesn't stay that way.

Just booked the Canary Island Run (combined with some nice scuba diving). Even though the flights MAD-Canary Islands are only 20TP, the deal is still quite good if you dont fly from the UK:

HAM-LHR-MAD-TFN // 200TP Round Trip. Priced at 523 Euros

I booked for last week of October. But plenty of availability in the winter. Possible from most Destinations in Germany and Scandinavia. Using HEL adds 200 Euros...

Also possible to ACE, but Segment of MAD-ACE-MAD often limited availaibilty in I class.

if anyone is SE Asia is looking for TP runs the CGK-CMB-DXB route on UL is still throwing up fares of around 700 GBP return in J
Thats a 560 TP's at a ridiculous 1.25/TP.
If you want to fly onto LHR, theres a BA flight 3hrs later with some very good upgrade offers from WT to WT+
Ive got 2 runs booked like this coming in at around 1200 GBP for the round trip each time
1480 TPs for around 1.71/TP.
Pretty much Gold sorted!

Wanted to share some thoughts & feedback on my recent OTP-PHX run:

- I had to get to LA anyway, so it was a great opportunity to get to Gold, so can't complain at all at the £-TP ratio
- I did OTP-LHR-JFK-LAX-PHX and the same for the return
- Both the Vienna Hotel and RIN are good hotels at OTP; RIN probably has the better facilities (and offers free entry to the water park at the moment!), while the Vienna has the better breakfast. RIN wouldn't let me take a cup of coffee out of the breakfast which I thought was a bit tight, but they did give me a 3pm check out for free, so not bad. Taxi's at OTP are cheap as chips, though its a bit confusing how to get them at first! (get a ticket from the taxi machines in the terminal)
- The Econolodge at PHX is actually a pretty decent hotel for £38 a night. Free shuttle each way, breakfast if you need it, and big rooms. Only downside is the shuttle from the hotel to the airport is on the hour, every hour, so had to get the 4am one for the 6am PHX-LAX departure
- The 744's LHR-JFK are starting to look a bit worn out. I selected good seats, 62A & K, so spacious, but the aircraft are noticeably old. Cabins are patched up and not up to scratch. On the overnight JFK-LHR, it was stupidly hot in the cabin, and no air jets to use meant it stayed that way. The crew, who were fantastic, were even fanning themselves, so it was not just me. White company bedding is nice.
- AA's A321 Transcon, on the other hand, are lovely. I've flown now in F, J & Y (MCE) on the route and all are very good. I got upgraded from J to F from JFK-LAX which was great, especially as I have no status with AA. They actually came and did it when I was already seated in J which was a first for me.

Lounges:
LHR T5 - The usual. Nice, but busy. Nothing out of the ordinary. Why oh why do they make up bacon rolls, and not just offer bacon?!
JFK - AA T7. Flagship lounge is really nice. Watched some World Cup matches while there! Good quality food & beverage, lovely shower suites. Generally very nice. If you can, go here over the BA lounge.
JFK - BA T8. Not great, at all. Very busy, poor food selection. I tried the Club World pre flight dining. Don't bother. The food onboard is vastly superior. Frankly, the sandwiches in the lounge were more appealing as I was leaving than what I had in the pre flight dining. I'm tempted to complain it was that poor.
LAX - Flagship. Again, really nice lounge. Great food selection, full bar and good champagne. Omelette station in the morning, and fried rice station in the evening. The fried chicken is rather tasty!
PHX - Avoid the smaller lounge, A19-21 I think, as its tiny and gets rather warm; the other ones are pretty decent

All in all, a mostly enjoyable experience, and got me Gold so very happy. One thing I've noticed is my jet-lag is worse with this amount of flying, compared to just doing the A380 LHR-LAX and back, so its not something I'd do more than once a year.

More than happy to answer any questions on this routing if anyone needs any help or has queries.

Excellent report and information for some of us travelling there later this year (esp the taxi ticket! ) - Thanks!

Really surprised by the J-F upgrade on the 321 transcon as there are usually really long waitlists of EXP-AA people for those flights - so well done!

AA does not offer upgrades on the Transcons J-F in the way that it does on other Domestic services. The upgrades on Transons are Y-J only, by virtue of status. And upgrade from J-F is due to needing the seat in J, possibly due to an oversold Y or J cabin.

To me, the heat is why I'd never fly in such a plane again. I did back from the Denver in 62A. Asked over and over if they could turn the heat down, they eventually admitted they could not, and I ended up getting a spare seat downstairs because it wasn't 30 degrees.

People speak as to that being the best seat on the plane. I think those people might well be lizards, unless only some of them were boiling hot. This was April, BTW, so not as if it was hot in general around that time...

Did you contact customer services about it? I'm thinking about it, as, combined with the poor lounge at JFK, I had a rather disappointing experience with Club World, esp. compared to an A380 and the LAX lounge. Is it worth bothering with?

Although not the case here, there is also the possibility to upgrade J->F using SWUs
