FCO-CTU is also cheap and can be routed via HKG. Bear in mind that you'd need to squeeze in another flight somehow to qualify for the free transit visa.

LHR-TLL-LHR can be had for 260€ in I booking class. Dates around November and December.
The flights are on fridays and mondays so perfect for a weekend break.

Although this isn't the TP run thread , it is just worth noting that the direct BA flight attracts only 40 TP each way in J.

EDIT; also note the BA ILM0R fare at £226 has the conditions:

PERMITTED 01 NOV THROUGH 31 MAR ON THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL SECTOR.
TRAVEL FROM LAST STOPOVER MUST COMMENCE NO EARLIER THAN THE FIRST SUN AFTER DEPARTURE OF THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL SECTOR.

Which is wierd, because LHR-HEL earns 80 TP each way in J, only 80kms south.

Are the SH+ routes mileage-based, or arbitrarily chosen by someone in Waterside?

There are two BA routes which are longer than LHR-TLL and also earn 40 TPs.

Also LHR-HEL is 1134 miles and LHR-TLL is 1106 miles in the BA calculator.

Between 1000 and 1150 miles the routes are a mixture of 40 and 80 points and there is no defined change point.

Somewhat mileage based, although there is no defined change point and between 1000 and 1150 mile it is a mix. Designation isn't purely distance based, but the exact criteria are unclear.

Last year it was ex-Germany, nowadays it's ex-Italy/Spain!

Oh how I missed that time when MUC-LHR-HKG RT in CW was £780.

Sadly, you need a Chinese visa for this one

Back when LHR-CTU was still active you could take advantage of the 72 hour transit visa waiver as you were flying UK -> China -> HK.

Maybe if you route via NRT you can still do this?

You are right, this was much easier when BA had the direct flight. The fare doesn't allow routing via NRT though. Full fare details on the TP run thread, but the routing table is:

/WITHIN THE EASTERN HEMISPHERE/
MAP CONSTRUCTED LEFT TO RIGHT AND RIGHT TO LEFT
1. MIL-LON-HKG-KA/HX/CX/CA-CTU
2. MIL-LON-SHA/BJS-KA/HU/CZ/CA-CTU
I think the only two ways to use TWOV would be do option 2 via PEK/PVG and then book a separate ticket on to HKG on KA, but obviously you need to also have a separate ticket back to CTU to start the return. Or take option 1 and then a separate ticket to anywhere outside China (not HKG), again you still need to get back to CTU to start your return.

Just a quick extra note as a reminder that option 1 is much better here, as this allows use of the 72 hour TWOV facility. Option 2 (LHR-PEK/SHA-CTU || CTU-[HKG for example]-CTU || CTU-PEK/SHA-LHR only allows 24 hour TWOV (as there are two stops within China), so you would need to book the flight out of CTU no less than 24 hours after arriving in PEK, and similarly on the return, the flight out of PEK/SHA no less than 24 hour after arriving in CTU. Not impossible, but less comfortable certainly.

Has anyone managed to get the MIL-LON-SHA-CTU route booked? I cannot find anyone to book it (OTA nor BA call centre), I think because the SHA-CTU route is showing on ITA Matrix as F. This is right through to April next year.
