2016 POUG rate tracker

Please add your own successful results to the follow list including the month/year when the POUG was offered to you.

UPDATED TO: Post #259

POUGs are offered via BA.com and the App Manage My Booking via a distinctive banner (example from MMB below). You cannot get a POUG by telephoning, however the service centres can complete a POUG which falls over mid transaction. They are offered on cash and Avios redemptions but typically not on complex routings, BA Holidays or travel agency bookings until OLCI stage. POUGs on Avios redemptions won't get you additional TPs/Avios, but they will on revenue tickets.

Short haul routes from LON to/from Europe
A price in pounds indicates a ticket issued from London, other currencies indicate prices for tickets issued overseas (e.g. singles or returns originating from CDG priced in Euros). Multiple prices indicate a range of fares are on offer. Note that LCY prices currently seem to be on a different basis to LGW and LHR (cheaper, in other words).

I credit to AA.

Does BA reissue the ticket with the correct code for business class?

Seems like an okay deal for a 2.5hr flight?

They wanted like £600 more during the round-trip booking for FC or whatever BA calls that cabin.

There wasn't a banner or notice to upgrade. I clicked on the "upgrade your booking" link on the MMB.

Is this a POUG?

If I switched my earning to BA for this one flight how many Avios would this net me if I upgraded? Does it go to the R/I category of earning?
That price sounds a lot like a POUG, and unless your underlying original fare was quite high (some sort of flexible economy, HBO does not impact this), a "normal" upgrade for difference in fare would be higher, as you saw at time of booking.

There may not have been a banner, though it does rotate with other offers at the top of MMB, so also possible you didn't see it. They also put a button at the side for POUGs, so could that be what you clicked? "Normal" upgrades tend to say "upgrade my class of fare with money/Avios".

Anyhow, if it is a POUG (when you click through it will probably say something like "limited time offer"), and you credit to BA, it should earn you the Avios and TPs for an R/I fare (though the ticketed fare class will probably be U). The actual amount of Avios earned will vary depending on your BA status (from 1335 if Blue up to 2225 if Gold, per sector on LHR-ARN).

If you take it, they will reissue the ticket with a new ticket number, though the PNR remains the same. Assuming you booked the original flight online with BA directly, you'll get an email with subject starting "BA changed e-ticket receipt" and including PNR, route and date. It's usually quite efficient, if done online you should get the new e-ticket within 15-20 mins of getting it confirmed online (new booking details should be immediate in MMB).

First time on BA.

I flew WTP PHX-LHR-JNB in WTP. The 747 sucks. I need a wall to sleep on and there's a huge gap. The A380 on the top deck had plenty of room. I had bulkhead seats on both.

But I AUP'd JNB-LHR and used Avios to UG to J on LHR-PHX today.

I didn't really like the seat/lack of space in CW, to be honest--and I had 62A on the upper deck of the 747. I prefer DL/KL/AF's J much better but I am flying AA/BA for 2016 out of boredom.

So I hope to be able to contribute to this forum.

Next MR is back to JNB (3-day Safari/hot air balloon ride over the nature park) on Saturday. . Doing Y/Y outbound and PE/J on the return.
Thanks, on the 380 as well on the bulkhead seat so makes me feel better, as BA seems very stingy on the Avios upgrades on this route even on low season.
Am going to Kruger as well, will PM for you advise on itinerary.

Just wanted to throw this update here.

Flew the following routes last weekend in PAID W, BA ticket stock, crediting to AA.

PHX-LHR (flew in W): Received the correct W-based AA miles
LHR-JNB (flew in W): Received the correct W-based AA miles
JNB-LHR (paid at JNB to UG to J): Received the 25% Class of Service bonus associated with flying in paid J
LHR-PHX (upgraded to J w/Avios a month before departure): Receive the correct W-based AA miles.

So it appears that even with airport upgrades the ticket is reissued and shown to AA's system as the cabin to which you have upgraded. ^^

I can only assume that it will be the same for POUG's, too.

In case of AUP ticket is not reissued but instead an EMD is generated to the PNR. I guess BA's IT is able to pick-up this EMD and credit correctly when posting points also to other FF schemes.

In case of POUG ticket is indeed reissued.

Just been offered upgrade on ATH - LHR on 18 Feb for £179 per person. It is a 100% Avios booking.
Not only is it expensive in my opinion but given I wouldn't get any miles or tier points, it definitely doesn't seem worth it.

I wouldn't bother. My brother got stranded in Athens a few weeks ago when his Ethiopian 777 bound for Addis gave up the ghost somewhere over the Adriatic and was diverted. He paid a crazy £543 to get back to LHR in Club Europe. Said there was little legroom (2F) for his 6ft frame and the breakfast offering was awful.
