We had a Super Hi-J on BA39 to PEK on Monday which was a real treat. Decent entertainment and plenty of space even upstairs. Apparently downstairs we nearly empty, not surprising considering this is a mid-J route normally (and 777 in Winter). Presume this is a one-off rather than anything regular, does anyone know?

Having spoken to the cabin crew, these aircraft are not usually allocated on this route but yesterday's original 744 went tech and was replaced by G-CIVR.
I was in F so no difference but Club looked very empty.

Aircraft generally have the same IFE system throughout the aircraft, and BA are no different. The non-refurbished 747s have Rockwell Collins IFE throughout, whilst the refurbished 747s have Panasonic IFE throughout.

My first BA flight is coming up on 29 May, (#294 ORD-LHR), on a Super High-J 747. In WT, so not expecting much. I'm wondering if anyone has any expectation guidance between this 747 and UA's 747, (which I've flown SFO-HKG), traveling in basic economy? Thanks for any advice. (Client's travel agent selected seats 43C going and 42H coming back.)

I don't think I've seen pics of the WT cabin yet. I'll post some when I figured how. I flew in one of those on Sunday. Seats OK, it did feel like I had more legroom although I assume it was just an impression. IFE was great although it's a shame the screen angle can't be adjusted, especially when the seat is reclined. Not much else to say.

I just thought I would post a word of caution regarding bassinet seats 20E and 20F in CW on the lower deck of the new high-J aircraft. Mrs Wooster and I flew with young Master W back from DEN last month on G-CIVX and found that, with the bassinet table down, access from the seats to the aisle was near enough impossible.
I have a racing snake physique and had to contort myself to squeeze through the gap between the bassinet and the seat shell. Mrs Wooster, who is a little bigger than me, could only get to the aisle by either crawling under the bassinet (which is only possible if the foot rest is up) or by climbing over the partition between her seat and the aisle seat. The latter option was only possible because the flight was less than half full.
I flagged the issue up to BA's Customer Service who have let the Engineering Team know.
