Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Prospero's guide to using ITA matrix in post 3 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year)

Or a slightly more interesting fun run

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under 300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under 500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VLL via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for 520

Outbound there is a layover of 2 hours and 34 minutes between landing at JFK with BA and departing for PHX with AA. There is then 1 hour 29 at PHX for the SFO flight which I presume is a simple transfer?

Coming back there is a layover of 2 hours 50 at JFK to get from Terminal 8 to Terminal 7 for the BA flight back to LON which must surely be plenty of time?

I may well have hold baggage so I presume when i check in at DUB my bag will be put all the way through to SFO as I am doing that trip in one go? Coming back I am planning to night stop in PHX so again I presume my bag will be checked all the way through to DUB when I check in at PHX?
These connection times all look fine. You really never know when arriving in the US how long you will need to clear immigration, but I would not want to schedule more than 2.5 hours as it would usually be wasted time.

I just learned that PHL domestic to international now has a MCT of 90 minutes, which is pretty absurd when you consider that it's an incredibly easy transfer. My domestic AA flight re-timed, so my transfer time was now 77 minutes, and my flight vanished from my booking. All cleared up after a quick call of course.

making a TP run booking - options

Hi all, last year dutch was super kind and helped me make a booking for my TP run. I believe he is on vacation now for a few days. In any case though, I wanted to see if I could make the booking on the AA website (multi-city tool). I've hit a problem - I think the AA tool only allows 6 segments, my TP run has 8 - is there a way to add segments to that tool?

What other options do I have to make the booking? Call BA perhaps and find someone who will follow what I will ask ?

You can combine segments in the query. There is no direct OW flight JFK-HNL so use that to search for JFK-x-HNL for instance. Use the "sort by schedule" feature with 50 results to pick the pair of flights you want.

I would be happy to calm the gold line to book. Hopefully they will be able to get exactly what you want. Also, you may be able to sneak an UUA if you can get availability on the TATL assuming you are doing this on BA.

Good luck... I am completely jealous!

AA.com limits you to 6 city plairs, not 6 flights. You need to get creative with your city pairs, or alternatively start experimenting with itamtrix.

I have always booked these with BA, so a few with the gold line and now with the GGL line. I haven't had a problem calling and getting it done.

Yeah, I've the itinerary worked out from ITA, just need to get the booking done. the 6 city pairs in the AA tool don't allow me to specify the full trip.

I'll call need to call BA gold line when I'm back in UK..

Happy New Year !

Hi 62aClubWorld. I've managed to book more sectors with the AA multi city tool by picking city pairs there are no direct flights between. It is forced to give you additional sectors.
For example, assuming you were doing a standard TP run that seems quite popular amongst the TP runners, say DUB-LHR-MIA-LAX-HNL rtn, the six city pairs I would enter into aa.com would be DUB-LHR, LHR-MIA, and MIA-HNL and then the reverse to return. As there are no direct flights between MIA and HNL, it will display connecting flights, amongst which will be MIA-LAX and LAX-HNL.
In order to get the widest possible choice to match to your ita matrix itinerary, set the aa.com 'how do you want to search' option to 'schedule' and select 50 in the 'show flight results' drop down box.
Select fare preference as 'business class or higher', under 'carrier' choose 'American Airlines, American Eagle and oneworld' to get BA flight options and select your flights from the results given.
Hope that helps.
Happy New Year everyone!

The only way I managed it was DUB-LHR-PHL-PHX-PHL then PHL-LHR-DUB
I think it was 150 more expensive because the PHL is a stopover of 5 days

I need advice about working out a TP run. I am usually based in London, but right now I am in New York. Does anyone have any good suggestions. I am reading these threads and trying to learn how to work this out myself, but there are certain things I have not figured out. I would love to have some help learning how to do this. I need 800 tier points.

I have a HNL TP run priced up on Matrix but so far neither BA Gold line nor AA bookings can get near the price! I have talked the agents through the codes I have from matrix but no joy.

Not sure what to do next to get this booked

Try aa.com
I use it for most my complex multi-cities to the US if flying BA or AA.

Why not state what you haven't figured out and people can help you work them out?

+1. Dates and flight numbers and somebody can have a look for you.

One persons 'sad' is another persons 'going out of their way to help others'.
