Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Prospero's guide to using ITA matrix in post 3 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year)

Or a slightly more interesting fun run

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VLL via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520

Good fare if you don't mind a A320 for 6 hours in J... no thanks.

Yup. Just looking at this route, actually.

I'm going to take FRA-DOH-DMM//DXB-DOH-FRA for £1400 on the new QR A350 instead. Seems excessive, but when you consider an extra night in a hotel at DXB at £200 to get over the 6 hours in that A320, plus not being able to work the day I get home, it evens our pretty quickly.

Just booked a nice easter break in the ILR28AP sale, doing a LHR-CPH-LHR-JFK-PHX-SFO, should come out as a nice 900TP run, and the total came out to about £1200. Quite excited as it will be my first TP run!

Hi all
Firstly I apologise if
A) this is a stupid question
or B) This has been answered in one of the 58 pages this post.

What I was wondering is, with an itinerary for example JER-LGW-MLA-LGW-JER, how do you go about booking it online? Would you select the "Multi-city/stopovers" option, or do you book each individual return separately and make sure they tie up connection wise etc?

Thanks very much

exDUB ILR28AP

For reference on the ILR28AP promotion exDUB.

Travel from inbound transatlantic sector must commence no earlier than the first sun after departure of the outbound transatlantic sector
Travel from last stopover must commence no later than midnight 12 months after departure from fare origin.
Stopovers not permitted on the fare component
Permitted
25 Jun through 22 Aug
23 Nov through 30 Nov
18 Dec through 04 Jan
28 Mar through 12 Apr
on the first international sector
Reservations for all sectors are required at least 28 days before departure
2 transfers allowed per region in each direction, so 2 in Europe and 2 in the US each way.

There is no promotion end date, so it could go at any time.

Example prices (for November 2015):

HNL - €1,886 (£1,400)
LAX - €1,886 (£1,400)
SFO - €1,886 (£1,400)
LAS - €1,783 (£1,323)
ORD - €1,757 (£1,304)
JFK - €1,565 (£1,161)

Bear in mind that as there is a new BA DUB-LCY service which started in October 2014 and there is an early morning arrival in to LCY you can do a same day connection from DUB arriving at 0820 and connecting on to BA1 departing at 0945.

Any booking made before 28 April will earn 210 TPs on BA1-4, whilst any booking made after this travel date will only earn 140 TPs.

There is also a AY DUB-HEL service starting in March 2015 and running until late October which you may be able to add in, so DUB-HEL-LHR/LCY-JFK- etc. DUB-HEL only gets 40 TPs as shorthaul+ is only exUK and the 80 TP rate would only apply to HEL-LHR. I haven't had much luck including a HEL connection without the price shooting up.

No, just do a return starting JER and going to MLA. ba.com will show the connections at LGW for you.

Doh! Can't believe I didn't realise that. That would also explain why the ones I've been looking up were all stupidly expensive.

Thanks

Hi Filthy Monkey, thanks for the info. I have flown AA a few times in first and at the back. I liked the first cabins. Are there any comparison threads here for US - would love to do a bit of reading before I choose

I have to admit, my comment was a little tongue in cheek as they're not much different to AA's two class services, but they're certainly far from comfortable for a long flight and I have never been overly impressed by the service. For comparisons, your best bet is probably to try the Trip Report forum.

Hi Guys

Just a heads up that there is currently an ILRAP28AP ex DUB for following outbound departure dates - 22JUN to 22AUG or 23NOV to 30NOV or 18DEC to 04JAN. I've just priced up the following -

DUB(J)-LCY(I)-JFK(I)-SFO(I)-JFK(I)-LCY(J)-DUB

and its €1438 (excl. tax) and you get to sample the AA 32B transcon business class! Plus 780 TPs if booked and ticketed before the Exec Club changes on 28 April.

Various fare levels ex DUB with cheapest being MCO for €1152 (excl. tax) with the following routing -

DUB(J)-LCY(I)-JFK(A)-CLT(A)-MCO(A)-CLT(A)-JFK(I)-LCY(J)-DUB (USAir internals)

Happy flying guys!

Would this happen to be the same ILR28AP exDUB promotion I posted details to a few posts up and put a link to in the wiki?

What were the dates for your SFO one? I was getting €1886 rather than your €1438 figure.

EDIT: admittedly I did miss out the R of the ILR28AP, but this has been corrected now in my post.

2nd EDIT: just notice your €1438 figure is without tax - it is actually without tax, all fees, and YQ hence why your figure is lower. If you can work out a way not to pay these things on the fare please let us know, otherwise perhaps just best to quote a fare all in
