Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Prospero's guide to using ITA matrix in post 3 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year)

Or a slightly more interesting fun run

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VLL via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520

I put that at 40+140+60+60+210+210+60+140+40 = 960 TP (£1.04/TP)

Can someone confirm I'm not going crazy here!? It would mean I don't get to spend an afternoon / evening in Washington, but does stack on the TP at a better ratio.
Even though that triple jump in the US didn't work out, this inspired the trip I just booked now, so thank you

I managed to include an afternoon/night in Boston on the way out, and most of a day in Miami on the way back, both bonuses.

DUB-LHR-BOS-PHL-LAS-MIA-LHR-DUB

40+140+60+210+210+140+40=840 for £980 @ £1.17 per TP. And it's a great trip to boot...

Could have squeezed an extra 60 in there on the LAS-MIA leg, but decided it was too much hassle.

Thanks guys - that makes sense re: the same flight number. Clearly I was too exciting at the all over the place routing I didn't look in enough detail! Still some decent runs to be had though. I'm still pondering over whether I pull the trigger on a HNL run, LAS run or nothing and just have my planned holiday in LIM / BOG instead (using Avios ex-MAD) and do a TP run once the new year ticks over in January 2017.

I am going to need an additional Qualifying flight as my already booked Tier Point Run only includes 3 Qualifying legs (I think) and I will need 4.

So I thought I might do a quick weekend day trip somewhere and also try and pick up some additional points.

Any ideas for something cheap that I can preferably do in a day? I am based in Norfolk so London is best place to start although I could start at AMS (KL from NWI) however that makes it expensive and there don't seem to be any NWI-AMS-NWI deals any more.

Daytrips still seem to be available, generally £80-100 and can be booked for the weekend coming e.g. out and back in one day

Try BCN, ABZ, FCO - these ones often are available. Otherwise just try any shorthaul destination!

Hey guys I'm quite a newbie on TP runs beside one I did 2 years ago, CUN-MIA-LAX-LAS return, it was posted here and very easy to book on aa.com
I haven't flown much in past 2 years.
- TP collection ends on Jan 8th
- gold card expires on Feb 29th
- only 280 TP at the moment

It looks more convenient for me to wait until Jan 9th and do a massive TPR so that I will have a gold card for 2 consecutive years. Does it make sense?
It's my first time using the ITA- MATRIX, trying to learn from your posts, I'm probably being naive here but I found what it seems a very good fare and I would like to check with you if everything is correct.
If it is I really have now clue on where to book this, I've been trying on several websites including Hipmunk but no luck so far.

HNL-LAX-PHX-BOS-PHL-MIA-PTY-MIA-PHL-BOS-PHX-LAX-HNL 1280 TPs - £815 (0.63/TP)

You can go on aa.com and use the multi-city tool. Once the result page is loaded, you can select the flight based on the flight numbers given in the ITA Matrix routing. I use the following routing and manage to price it at around £850. Some of the timing can be improved though I guess, as there seems to be a lot of wait time on the outbound (at LAX, PHX and PHL)

Very nice. I'm a noob myself, but I'v started to get my head around the multi-city booking tool on aa.com.

I've managed to almost replicate this as a bookable fare, just not quite. Someone with more experience might be able to. Only difference I can see is I can't force it via Boston on the way back, it goes Orlando instead, althoguh rest of schedule and TP is the same.

They way I do it (again, probably a bit basic), is to select the Advanced search on aa.com then choose the multi-city tab. In order to locate these, I broke it down into pairs and specified the departure time. Then selected search by schedule for business fares on AA+partners. Hopefully then you can sift through all the options and locate the right ones. Here's what the search looks like

Hope this helps. Alternatively you can call AA

Searching under 'Schedule' and selecting '50' under 'Show flight results' is a good way to do it. There may be a price difference compared to the 'Price' option.

Edit: Mistook MIA-PTY for 140, when it's 40.

Still, 1,130 isn't shabby.

HNL-LAX-PHX-BOS-PHL-MIA-PTY-MIA-PHL-MCO-PHX-LAX-HNL 12 flights for £827..!

Plus ~40k avios for Gold.

Ah yes, that did the trick, thanks.

In fact via Boston is £885 so it might be worth using the one I found. Same TP, same duration, just a few quid cheaper.

Yes, you're right Nkvong, was using 140 not 40.

I'm only getting 1130 on this route..

210 + 60 + 210 + 60 + 60 + 40 + 40 + 60 + 60 + 60 + 60 + 210

(note MCO-PHX is just shy of 2000 miles...)
