Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Prospero's guide to using ITA matrix in post 3 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year)

Or a slightly more interesting fun run

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under 300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under 500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VLL via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for 520

Bear in mind the current IL28SALE does not cover September, but if you lok at my post earlier today you will see the US equivalent IL28SALE fare doesn't have any date restrictions so you need to get it under the US IL28SALE both ways to work. Your TATLs therefore need to be US coded.
Thanks KARFA - question answered!! ^

I've had BA price me up an itinerary that was 100% US flight numbers, with all flights being operated by AA or BA (but not US). They were able to price it correctly.

Yes, they can do this. It is just possible they may be reluctant to do it since the fare will be the US equivalent IL28SALE, but it shouldn't matter to BA since it is all shared revenue across the Atlantic. I have had a purely AA coded itinerary booked with BA to Hawaii so all under the AA equivalent sale fare.

And I have a purely AA-coded itinerary to South America on BA stock, which is not shared revenue.

Although they are providing the metal for four of the flights so presumably they get something out of it.

I am looking at

OSL/LHR/SIN/BKK/HKG/ADL continuing onto SYD/SIN/HKG/LHR/OSL (all in I except the two end flights in J, fare basis INCEU28) - about 840TP.

It prices at 2168 with 2 stopovers and four transfers each way (2.68/TP). I am only looking at this strange routing because my family is all over SE Asia right now and the fare seems to welcome imaginative routing. For roughly 200 more (i.e. UK taxes) you can have a summer holiday in Oslo in August and resume the trip from London anytime in the next 12 months (I am pricing it for Feb next year).

Advice needed - Washington to Las Vegas

Any advice on this one appreciated

I am in America towards the end of July staying with some friends near Washington. Travel is of course ex DUB!!

I now have the chance to meet some other friends in Vegas but have little flexibility on dates.

I will travel from Washington on Monday 27th July (guessing most likely DCA although IAD - Dulles is much closer to my friends' house) and can take as long as I like provided I arrive that evening so can do some stops for extra TP's! Will fly domestic First.

I am returning overnight most likely via Los Angeles (to Dulles) on Friday 31st July so I both maximise the time in Vegas and am back to my friends by the weekend so realistically little flexibility here.

So my question is how can I easily find the most effective routing to Vegas that maximises Tier Points without breaking the bank? Is it just a case of playing around with options on aa.com or is there a simpler way? I have found DCA - JFK - PHX - LAS that I think will get me 330 TP for around 480.

Any guidance appreciated and thanks in advance

Trying out another TPR ex-HNL, the price for HNL-LAX-MIA-SAL-MIA-LAX-HNL marginally higher than what's wiki-ed. Updated now.

Prices out at 779, generating 920 TP at a rate of 0.82/TP

Off the top of my head, routing through PHX or MIA earns the 210TPs. Try routing through PHL or EWR for PHX. BOS also works for PHX but I don't know about the timings. For MIA, I believe it is to LAX.

There is a list of the 60/210 TP US/AA routes towards the bottom of the wiki.

Noob question - I have an itinerary solely consisting of BA and Qatar flights:

BA16-QR945-QR7//QR28-QR944-BA15

I can get it to price on Matrix, but not on Qatar or British Airways sites using multicity. Can I just call BA to book it, or do I need to embark into the murky world of TAs?

I have just been looking at return flight business class LCA LHR using Avios.

The cost is 35,000 avios + 50 return.

Does BA not take any Tier Points?

No. Tier Points are not a currency - they are earned on One World revenue flights and promote you through the various Exec Club tiers. They are not earned on redemption flights like the one to Cyprus you suggest. Avios is an earn/burn currency - earned when flying revenue flights or through partners, and burned on redemption flights or with partners.

Thanks ENTP

We are looking to fly LCA Delhi via Doha with Qatar using Avios.

For that flight they want 1573 Avios LCA Doha and 40 Tier Point and then Doha Delhi 1993 avios 40 tier points.

So for the return flight they want 7132 Avios and 160 Tier Points.

I dont understand why only LCA/LHR return they take Tier Point but on the LCA Delhi with Qatar they do take Tier Point.

They say this will drop us from Silver to Bronze status.

Please can you help/

So confusing not sure the BA staff fully understand.
