Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Prospero's guide to using ITA matrix in post 3 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year)

Or a slightly more interesting fun run

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VLL via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520

In order to do that you will have to avoid the JFK-LAX route, so try JFK-PHX-HNL or try going via BOS as suggested by pinkcat.
I was offered A class on the AA transcon yesterday when booking a US IL28SALE with BA. I declined and booked into I class which brought the ticket cost down by around £400.

Lots of options really. I eliminate the hotel stay in the UK by using FR from LPL early on Saturday morning and overnight somewhere in the US along the route on Saturday (probably MIA) and only be away from home for a shade over 48 hours. On a very different itinerary, I used Irish Ferries Rail/Sail earlier this month and thoroughly enjoyed it although you need a full day for that.

As a contingency, I have the HIEX at John Lennon booked for several Friday nights in July/August. IHG had a special offer on Tuesday so it cost me an insignificant 5k points a night added to the ludicrous 9.99 Euros for the flight which is amazing value.

We should do it all together

I think the 37 minute connection in PHX looks very adrenaline inducing

Last time I caught a CRJ flight in the US, I'm sure my standard size wheelie bag (and everyone else's) was checked at the plane door and returned to the plane door on arrival due to the size limitation of the overhead bins.
Getting the bag back to the plane door on a full flight took, I guess, between 10 and 15 minutes as we all stood on the gangway waiting and when the bags arrived, 50 people were trying to get their bags first in a scene that resembled the opening of the Boxing Day sales. It will eat, quite significantly, into the 37 minutes connection time so I think 'adrenaline inducing' is somewhat of an understatement.
Having said that, I have a 34 minute connection at Phoenix coming up but at least that is A320 to A321 from First with hand baggage with me, and I still have a later flight option if I don't make it.
What is life without living on the edge running between airport gates

Thanks. I have not been on the CRJ before so interesting to hear.

Certainly wouldn't need a wheelie bag for this one. A small rucksack with ipad, headphones, charges, spare pants, spare shirt, and toiletries would be enough for such a short trip. I am sure that could go below the seat in front easily

Indeed it would and a bag that size would also fit in the overhead, but reading what some of the TP runners take on a short trip....

Generally anything with wheels with be gate checked on a CRJ even if it's smaller than some of the backpacks being taken aboard. There is not a lot of room in the lockers, I had to squeeze my Herschel in on my last CRJ flight.

Glad I read this as have have a couple of 45ish minute connections at PHX coming up (A321 to CRJ and vv) and re-thinking the normal wheelie bag now.

Will a small rucksack with a frame be ok on board? Frame is 50cm high and about 30 wide. Depth varies but it doesn't have to be stuffed full as will have checked bag (). Alternatively, do the wheeled laptop bags get taken away too?

Thanks.

Okay, I've tried my best through Matrix and the other usual tricks, but I can't get anything close to the sale fares being discussed for DUB-Hawaii over the Christmas period, so I am submitting for help from those wiser.

Does anyone see anything for 8-11 nights with a departure from the 20th-23rd in J ticketed on BA stock for EUR2500 or less?

Help most appreciated.

I think the sale price needs departure on the 24th at the earliest.

You need to read the information I posted at the start of teh sale, and linked to in the wiki. Here it is http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/24869923-post2426.html

Permitted
01 Jul 15 Through 31 Aug 15
22 Nov 15 Through 29 Nov 15
24 Dec 15 Through 31 Dec 15
17 Mar 16 Through 10 Apr 16
on the first international sector.
Note that the first international sector is the first flight leaving DUB.

Departing DUB on any of 20, 21, 22, or 23 December will not fall within the sale dates and therefore you will not get the sale price. No restriction on return dates, maximum stay is 12 months.

I managed to get an IL28SALE on US for the 2nd week of September. Is this technically outside the sale period and is there some availability of these fares in other periods also?
My route DUB-JFK-LAX-KOA/HNL-LAX-CLT-DUB $1696

Sounds like you are on the US equivalent IL28SALE fare. Seems the AA, BA, and AY ones have the date restrictions but the US equivalent is for any dates and is just restricted to:

VALID FOR TRAVEL COMMENCING ON/AFTER 28JUN 15. TRAVEL ON
THIS FARE COMPONENT MUST COMMENCE BY MIDNIGHT ON 10APR 16.
I think the determining factor as to whose IL28SALE fare you are booked under is related to what carrier code your TATL is under.

So on further experimenting, if you want to go outisde the AA, BA, and AY IL28SALE date restrictions you can get the sale under the US equivalent and can go via LHR as well if you wish. Just need to ensure the flights are coded as US ones. As long as you don't restrict to specific carriers on itamatrix and just do "/ alliance oneworld" they should come up.
