Tesco and Avios
Tesco, the major UK supermarket chain, allows you to convert Tesco Clubcard (CC) points to Avios. The standard earning rate is 1 CC point per £1 spent in store. They convert to Avios in the ratio of 1 CC point to 2.4 Avios or 2.5 Virgin miles. Every quarter, your points are converted to coupons and mailed to you - they can then be converted via the CC website to Avios or Virgin miles. Typically, it takes 1-2 working days for a conversion to BA Avios to complete.
The key to rapidly earning large amounts of Avios is the regular bonus point offers where large amounts of points can be earned. The latest are listed below and discussed within this thread.
The last period for collecting Clubcard points finished on 16 October 2014.
The last day for collecting points in the current quarter is 21 January 2015.
Topcashback (TCB)

I talked to a few people about taking out a Amex Gold card if just for the introductory MR points, which can be converted to many different things (albeit at a lower value to me than Avios). The possibility of things like Foursquare deals on top is a bonus, and again it's cash not Avios. Nobody has shown any interest beyond the usual "I really should look into that" before changing the subject.

I've also encountered this many times. People (especially in work, none of us travel for work) make snide comments about our trips and travels, and when I explain that it would be fully possible for them to do the same I'm always met with "but it sounds like so much effort". First of all its not that much effort, and second of all the rewards you get for that effort are very good. Their loss I suppose, I'll happily keep enjoying the rewards we get.

As to not to go too OT, I've received a nice surprise of 4x500 extra points for £60 shop coupons from my local Tesco to try and win back customers after their major refurbishment nightmare that no doubt drove business to Asda.

I am a bit of a newbie to the extra points business. When will it show up in the total points?. I am planning to buy the game when it comes out anyway but what happens if i dont buy it from tesco (if its cheaper somewhere else).
Since the same is being released after the current collection period will Mr T take back the 500 extra cc if I dont buy it?

On HfP someone is saying their bonus points did not register overnight and they were advised by Customer Services, after enquiring why they hadn't been logged, that they wouldn't as the offer ended on 15/6/14!
But others say there has been a delay in registering the CC points lately- 2 nights rather than one.
I bought 7 games today....oh the suspense. Will they, won't they resister?
Well two of my seven should as they were Disney Infinity. I shall be in for trouble if I have spent £25 for 25 points!

The issue is that the offer is officially over for most of these games. When you bought yours it was still a valid offer. Now people are uncertain if the offer is extended intentionally, so the bonus points will be given, or if it is an error in the IT system and the bonus points will therefore not be issued on Clubcard statements. It's a bit of a lottery, although Disney Infinity and Skylanders are still officially on offer with bonus points.
Neither of the stores I was in today was advertising bonus poinys for any of the games on sale, not even Infinity (and there were no Skylanders for sale that I could see).

I'll give that point some thought when flying to the US in Club/First with the family next Easter.
Seriously though, whilst you have a point about Avios availability, I am still surprised at how reluctant people are to do some of these things.
I've earned over £500 from Topcashback in the last 18 months. That can be taken as hard cash if you want. Clubcard points can be used for far more than just Avios.

On a more positive note a couple of years ago I did coach my brother and sister in law to enable them to travel first class to Australia for a family wedding and they're off to America at the end of the year.

I got two (!) letters from Tesco yesterday saying that my vouchers had all been converted back into points due to possible fraudulent activity - anyone else had this in the last few days?
What is more worrying is that when I try to log in I get "Sorry, we are currently experiencing problems with our system, please try again later" :-(

Having just booked 4x Business class and 1x First redemptions to Thailand during the Christmas holidays with a combination of AY and CX booked using avios, without resorting to a joker,I would say at best your comments are inaccurate, and at worst misleading.

However, Tesco has been good to their word and I have made 3 redemptions via phone with no trouble.
And it resets the 2 year expiry date on my vouchers!
