+1!!!

If we need to be associating secret information with passengers, then let's spend a little money on hand-held PDAs with bar code readers. These can be used at security checkpoints, etc. -- scan the BP, and see any secret/ confidential information on the PDA display. Then, the passenger will have absolutely no idea whether or not he or she is exempt from extra security, on some sort of no-fly list, or whatever.

If I truly believed that this would compromise any security I wouldn't discuss it. But GGG on a boarding pass is not. If there was a need for tagging boarding cards with secret information, it would be hidden in the PNR or in the 3D bar code.
I thought if you didn't answer the questions, then you wouldn't get on the flight...??

Well I didn't know what it meant......but I do now...

If you can't answer the questions due to language barrier or the like you will be escorted to a special security area for your bag to be x-rayed.

If someone refused to answer the questions, we'd call a manager to come and speak to them.

And btw - at no time have I explained exactly what GGG means, all of you are jumping to your own conclusions, most of which are far from correct!!

talking about this i've once heard a pax was pretty darn confused and said i dont know to at least the first 2 questions.

guess what, he didnt even have a carry on! Then again I think if someone travels with nothing he'd get triple checked these days.

Flights are not inconvenienced and delayed as a consequence of discussions here -- when inconvenienced and delayed unnecessarily that is a result of other issues.

When flights are inconvenienced and delayed unnecessarily expect that complaints should follow as deserved.

Even if given that, no shame in public-facing employees being publicly open about what to expect.

A lot of people travel without cabin and/or checked luggage and ordinarily it neither involves nor deserves any extra scrutiny.

I'm afraid the honest answer to all 3 for me is that my wife has packed it, has always packed it before, and will hopefully always continue to pack it! I don't really have much of a clue what's in there - but she rarely forgets anything (though usually over packs).

I totally agree with you ^ : it's rather stupid to print informations on BP that need to be secret

It does not mean that there will be no additional security check. It is there for the US flights only and is aimed at helping BA staff who are queue hosting the T5B 'Little America' area. Determination on additional security checks are up to the security staff.

If the aim of security is to use chance and intuition to detect transgressors, and to deter potential transgressors from even trying anything, then you want a system that is shrouded in mystery and changes often.

On the other hand, if your aim is not detection/deterrent but instead you want to persuade people that there really is a threat out there that warrants past actions then it is helpful to have highly visible security and talk about it a lot. Whether it is effective or proportionate becomes irrelevant.

It's not supposed to be common knowlege and info was issued to staff on a need to know basis only (and that does not include advising passengers).

Surely, if there's a secret, it must be in the method for determing when a person needs no further pre-screening, not on the label attached to their BP?

And as such the secret is still safe?

What is the reason for asking these questions at check-in? And what will happen if I give the 'wrong' answers?

As I said previously, I never pack my bag myself (well, only on the return if I'm travelling alone). However I lie every time, as I haven't dared to find out what happens with the "wrong" answers either.
