I joined mid 2007 and have 17xxxxxx Looks like it might be sequential just skipping numbers that are already allocated to current members, obviously.
No reference to my date of birth or anything else in my number.

Hmm, what an interesting topic (in a geeky sort of way
). I signed up for a BAEC account in the beginning months of 2007, and created a household account and accounts for Dave Speedbird and Louise Speedbird, and we all have numbers beginning 1605xxxx.
Much later in the year, we signed up Louise Speedbird's mum (different address) as a BAEC member, and she got a number beginning 1669xxxx. Around the same time we applied for a BA Amex credit card for Louise Speedbird's dad, and ticked the "I do not have an existing BAEC account" on the application page - and he was allocated a BAEC number by Amex beginning 9995xxxx.
My guess is that numbers beginning 999 are ones allocated by Amex, and perhaps if they have any other partners who can create BAEC accounts, they have their own prefix range. As for how BA themselves pick the numbers, the fact all of our numbers began 16xx, and that mine, Louise & Dave's were created at the same time and have numbers beginnin 1605, means there must be some connection to the date that we signed up, but it looks like it must jump around around different ranges as time goes on, its not exactly sequential, but accounts registered around the same time begin with the same four digits.

My "personalised" number is a replacement for my Dec 94 number, which lapsed in 2001 due to inactivity. That number had no repeating digits or birth date references, unless I was born in the 13th month of 1973.

Early 2001 and 487XXXXX - all the rest is crap - although I have it memorised as all good FTers do
Maybe they should try an auction like Emitaes did for "good" number. They had 700700700 for example-- think someone paid 100,000 or 200,000 miles for the privilege-

Good idea though, if BA are trying to get people to spend all their miles at the moment...
Maybe they could auction a few Prem cards too

There is a system and I've cracked it...
If I add the second and third digits, divide by the fourth and then multiply by the sum of the first, second and seventh I get my age. And the remaining digits add up to the number of years I've been a member of BAEC.
Yes I'm bored. Anyone else got a quiet spell at work due to Thanksgiving?
