BAEC membership numbers
Just signed my partner up to the BAEC and created a household account so I can get my hands on his miles for some upcoming long haul flights he's doing in J.
His BAEC number is 18xxxxxx which compares to mine which is 34xxxxxx. I joined BAEC about 10 years ago so was interested to see that his number starts with a 1 vs mine with a 3. Anyone have any idea how these numbers are allocated? By the way, just booked him yesterday on IB down to Sao Paulo on Dec 3, returning in mid-Jan. Just £1.8k in J, compared to £1.3k in cheapest Y class available on IB, and £5.2k in J on BA. His ticket is flexible which he may need for the return on payment of a €120 fee plus any fare difference. So ex-EU tickets are still available and relatively good value, on IB. Yes I know he could have gone to Oz after Easter next year for $200 quid more in the recent QF 241 sale, but this is peak season, bought 3 weeks ahead of travel, and flexible. James |
A good thread to start as I have often wondered this too. My membership number starts 32xxxxxx and I joined around 1996, yet Mrs BA1A who joined last year got allocated 11xxxxxx. I always wondered if anyone had 0000000x for example.

At least unlike BD/VS, the BA number doesn't change with status (though BD at least only change the first digit - VS issue an entire new number  )/ |
Pure conjecture, but I would guess it's random or using some non-sequential algorithm.
I'm 10****** from 2004, but was previously a member from the early '90s with 76******. And my Dad was among the original members from way back when you paid for it, and I'm fairly sure his started with a 1 a well. Now that I think about it though, the card that started 76 was one that I got from a form in HighLife (or was it BusLife - can't remember) where you tore out a paper version of the card, and unlike LH the number on it was the actual one - not a temporary one. So maybe that would point to them allocating batches at a time for different purposes (at least historically if not now)... |
IIRC Prem's have a specific formatted number. For the rest, I think it is just random.

Another FTer and I seem to have numbers where the first half is identical so they're pretty close sequentially. Had to do a quick double take the first time I saw it in MMB like that. As yet another FTer would say "Ooh, it's a small world, isn't it?" :D

Mrs Teece and I joined within minutes back in 2005, both starting 122***** and differ only by their second-last digit, I signed the kids up earlier in the year and theirs begin 179***** and have the last three digits different.

First 4 digits of mine are the same and the last 4 are my month and year of birth in MMYY format.

That would make mine 3333126x which it isn't by the way. |
As a veteran of the 1992 intake, I am 228XXXXX.

Joined in 1996 and have 11XXXXXX
Signed up the rest of my family in February this year and all have 180XXX |

My BAEC number starts with a '9' and I can't actually remember when I joined.
My wife joined several years later and her number starts with a '1'. No relation with our dates of birth in our BAEC numbers. bjorns |
