And strangely enough, I can book via Iberia Business Class on those flights and there its lots of availability !!
As others have suggested, why not cancel within the 24 hours and rebook on IB?

To find out you are being shoved in economy you have to click the 'Flight details' downwards arrow (which I didnt do when booking because I knew the flight details) and then it shows you this:

That is hardly making it obvious when booking that despite selecting Business Class you are in fact getting Economy on this aircraft!!!
Hmm nothing on the page you are on is deceptive under consumer protection laws. Worth a complaint. Though no idea how long it would take to get it fully reimbursed.

I agree, it's really not obvious when booking on the website (I had the same happen to me, but realised when I tried to select seats and was able to cancel and re-book. This was LHR-MAD-XRY with the last leg on Air Nostrum).

Sometimes it seems to default to economy even business is definitely available (booking with a BA code) - in my case when I booked two seats it defaulted to economy, but when I booked a single seat it booked into business - so I booked both passengers separately to get around this. There was no price difference (or I think 1 difference) whether economy or business.

Isn't that PUCCI GALORE 's neck of the woods? Perhaps she is hosting a little cocktail party and it's gone viral...

If it's within 24 hours, choosing cancel online will usually show you a full refund. You can at least see what you're offered before proceeding.

YMMV as this is BA IT!

I managed to find LGW-ALC (09.40 departure) or on the OP's itinerary for a bit more. Forgive me but it came to about 330. If it were me, I would cancel and rebook if it is within the 24 hours. However the easiest in this instance is to go to LGW - I do not find 09.40 too early. It would mean no faffing around at Barajas. It is cheaper and involves so much less shoe leather.Maybe this option is no longer available to the OP.

i have had this issue and it is clearly the BA IT yet again. i fly frequently LHR-MAD-BIO and have been caught out going through the BA site booking and paying for biz to see after purchase the IB leg was booked into econ, but i caught it near immediately so was able to ring up and have the agent book the flight into all biz for the same fare.

it is annoying because i try to avoid booking with IB directly but have to call BA to make these bookings because clearly something on the IT is not being fixed. and this has only happened with BA-IB mixed itins

I spent 2 hrs the other day on the online chat to some bloke in India. He assured me that I had only paid for ECO. I explained and then provided screenshot showing BIZ fare. He said it was an Iberia problem and left the chat

You have only paid for economy, but unlike someone booking economy from the get go, your economy leg appears to be booked into actual Y class not one of the lower fare buckets. So you have benefits and flexibility that you would not otherwise have (hence why it prices up as the same price as business I guess)

and is it pricing up to a flexible or an inflexible business ticket?

At least the seats are the same on these little aircrafts. I have managed to get exit seat. I will just pilfer a couple of cans of beer from the lounge in MAD and drink on board to make up for my lack of provided drink that I would have got in my usual Business Class.

I haven't flown economy in years I am not looking forward to it

One of the lads has also booked onto the same flight he will be taking the P that I have to sit 'down the back'

What usually happens if the married-segments availability is say D4I4 for LHR-MAD and D4I0 for MAD-ALC, does BA offer prices for both D-D and I-Y?

Sorry to reopen this again.. my friend has booked the exact same flights out as me. He has booked business as well, but like me he has been ticketed 'business' but cabin economy on the way out.

One question, will he be able to enter the lounge in MAD? As I already have a guest that is flying economy that I need to guest in.

Thanks
