No seat allocation available! [BA16 SYD-LHR 4 Apr]
My wife and I are traveling tomorrow from MEL-BHD; this consists of a MEL-SYD codeshare flight with Quantas, then the epic SYD-SIN-LHR flight followed by LHR-BHD. All flights are to be flown in WT.
Trying to check in and the app won't let me; when I look to select seats on the SYD-SIN-LHR leg, they are all greyed out as unavailable. Reading on this form I have learnt that sometimes the seats are blocked from booking for various reasons. Is someone able to check and let me know if there are blocked seats on tomorrow's (4 Apr 23) BA0016 in the WT cabin?

It is still about 26 hours before tomorrow's flight departs - by 24 hours before departure when checkin maybe there will be some tinkering and upgrading that may free a few seats into economy class
If you do happen to get denied boarding due to a full flight, then hopefully the GBP520 might soften the blow if delayed 4+ hours
There does seem to be 8 seats in economy that are showing as available from SYD-SIN and 16 from SIN-LHR , so some seat shuffling should provide some seats for the through journey

My best guess is youll fly as booked, but quite possibly in 2 middle seats and split up.

All sorts of possibilities could happen. Including but not limited to:
My guess is QF will issue boarding passes to SYD and advise to collect BA passes there for the onward flights to the UK and NI and have BA deal with the seating issue (and address rerouting options if seats dont open up) as the flight closes.
- Rerouting you onto other flights to BHD
- Upgrading you for all or part of the journey
- Upgrading others to make way for you in Economy.

QF limit seat selection once X% is reached. BA codeshare may complicate. WT = economy.
Try logging in the QF manage booking using the QF code for QFxxx MEL-SYD and SYD-LHR. And again the BA codes. May or may not show something .BA codeshare may complicate.
Check in requires a document check. At MEL domestic go the right of the kiosks to the manual check in desks/bag drop area. Expect they will issue MEL-SYD and SYD-LHR boarding passes. Maybe LHR-BHD.
How long at SYD for T3 to T1? Done this before? If you go to MEL early, they may put you on an early MEL-SYD flight. Worth asking.
Enjoy the flights

Fortunately there's room for creative rerouting with partner airlines. QF1 SYD-SIN for example before connecting to BA12 to LHR... or QF1 all the way to LHR. Or even QF9 direct service MEL-PER-LHR. That's before QR to LHR and non Oneworld options have been exhausted.
I'm guessing with Easter at the end of this week most flights will be chocka to/from Europe at the moment.... but should be relatively easy in the event of denied boarding as booked to find a workable solution as only 2 seats are needed.

Which doesn't take into consideration the true loads for BA16. This is likely oversold.

FLYING9878 Please report back on what happens.
Expect it will be OK on the day.

Do you want to be higher on the list? if not in an urgent rush, the compensation is quite decent should you get delayed

We are scheduled to land in BHD 0855hrs (local), and have to be in a church in the city for 1300hrs for a family wedding. So ideally we'd like to be on the plane - if we're delayed to the next day I'm not sure the compensation will really make up for it.

The bookable loads vs the actual loads are two entirely different things. You can happily purchase a fare into an overbooking situation, it is all down to revenue management and their inventory for a particular flight.
Your cabin is full as is the next higher so seat allocation will be done at check in. At - 24hrs out the flight edits can start as the departure station take control of the flight. You may see a pre assigned seat appear on The app, alternatively seating will be allocated at the airport. Due to the length of the sectors there will likely be a lot of paid for seat allocation, so Id imagine choice at this stage will be somewhat limited.

Weve had this situation before and seats were allocated at the airport.
Some seats will be occupied by pax flying only SYD-SIN. Others will be occupied by pax only flying the SIN-LHR sector.
Then there are the pax flying SYD-LHR, effectively a third seat plan within the same flight.
We flew on our booked flight, sat together, but in different seats on the two sectors. Its the two different seats on two sectors with the same flight number that the IT couldnt deal with and had to be dealt with manually.
