BA3295 at Munich and general Munich Airport questions

Hi all,

A friend and I are flying from London City to Munich on BA3295, booked to arrive 2145. We are booked to catch the sleeper train which leaves Munich Hauptbahnhof at 2320, but could if necessary pick it up at Munich Ostbahnhof at 2331.

We had intended to catch the S-Bahn, for a nice and easy trip to the station with an option to get off at Ostbahnhof if things were getting too late, but I have just discovered today that the railway in the airport area is closed that evening for engineering works. Oops.

Therefore, I had a few questions to kind of gauge the added risk here:

* Does anyone know if BA3295 is normally a bus or a jetty at Munich? I get the impression from elsewhere that as long as it's a jetty, getting through Munich airport is pretty rapid. The flight is Stobart Air metal on the day I'm travelling if that makes any difference.
* Preliminary research shows that the next quickest way to Munich Hauptbahnhof after the S-Bahn is the Lufthansa Express Bus. Does anyone know how reliable the timings for this are? The 2200-ish bus should be able to get me on time, as in theory should the 2220-ish bus (though this one is much dodgier, as it leaves only about 10 minutes). Are these timings usually adhered closely to?
* More research shows me that a taxi to Ostbahnhof in practice is a quicker and more reliably fast journey, being reliably doable in around half an hour at that time of night. Is this accurate? If we arrive sufficiently late then hopefully I can still get there on time in a taxi.

PS: There are alternatives to get to where we need to be on time if all this does go to pot and we end up missing our sleeper, but for obvious reasons we'd much rather catch it!

Welcome to Flyertalk and welcome to the BA forum Muzer, I hope your trip works out well and you have a good time.

I am sure the Bavarian contingent of this forum will be best placed to advise, but I know that usually that's an airbridge arrival, though few things in aviation are guaranteed. And that the taxi timing of 30 minutes seems about right to me and though I normally try not to use taxis, in this scenario I would be expecting to use one, and it has various advantages here, not least the taxi rank at the station is right by the door. And German trains are not always on time these days.

Welcome to the forum Muzer.

I've taken this flight almost weekly since it launched earlier this year. Unfortunately there doesn't seem any exact science for whether this is remote stand or not - I have had both over the last few months.

However, your timing is fine. Take the Lufthansa bus - it is punctual and reliable. I actually prefer the bus to the S-bahn. Good wifi, comfortable seating and they take about the same time to reach Munich HBF - especially at that time of night.

As a last resort, take a taxi which would indeed take around 30 minutes. Be prepared to pay around 70-80 however.

Cheers everyone, that's put my mind at ease! We can definitely afford the taxi cost if need be; it beats the alternative of new train tickets to the Austrian border plus a hotel in Salzburg! (Though I daresay if things have gone that wrong it'll probably be claimable on my travel insurance). Hoping the filght is punctual and without incident but I've had a few flights recently that have been delayed just enough to worry me about onward connections so I'm not expecting much

Just back from MUC and a lovely tour with the OberSalzburg too - I arrived on a Sunday and was off quick via a jetway but my CE bags took maybe 15 mins or more -
I had a car booked to take me to my hotel in the CC (Platzil) which was fast and no traffic - and no speed limits lol

As you only have really an hour to make the train I suggest a taxi to the Hauptbahnhof - or book a car to meet you like I did (mine was prepaid 50/56e) with city airport taxis dot com

Flights from LCY are more often than not put on a remote stand and you are bused in. If the S-Bahn is closed then it will be replaced by "SEV" which is a special bus service to (generally) wherever the line is closed to. Personally speaking, it is a pain in the ar*e and the bus is a bit slow as it stops at the usual s-bahn stops. If you are going to get a taxi then book and pre-pay or book an Uber although there are fewer Uber's around Munich than you might expect. If you are going to Salzburg then no need to go into Munich Hbf if your train stops at Munich Ost as the S8 line (from the Airport) stops at Ost.

If you need times, planner etc then look at the MVV website
