Silvers have to pay for exit row seats and have to jump on them as soon as they become available. Example, the throne seats in WTP on the B744 become available at D-14 and for LHs the price just increased from GBP 15 to GBP 18.

Although I had already read your opening reasons, I'm just wondering if those are really enough? Apart from the first row offerings (which is sometimes available at OLCI anyway), the first class lounges at outstations (particularly at SYD and HKG) are nice but not "going out of my way" nice and there aren't that many First Class lounges anyway. Potentially more useful in North America to gain access to the Admirals Club though.
Do silvers get a choice of exit seats too? (It's irrelevant to me as I can't use them anyway).
I keep getting gold because work keep flying me on OW.
I wouldn't miss it terribly if I dropped to silver. That said, when I dropped from silver to blue, I didn't miss it either, I just wasn't travelling enough.
You hit the nail on the head - the soft landing to silver. ^

The soft landing to Silver isn't the main reason why, it's the 2 years as Gold and the USA is where I'll also benefit re the Lounges when I go there

Very true though

I get where you're coming from. I did my first TP run this year as I was a couple of hundred TPs short of gold so spent 250 on a 240TP run while in USA on business. The big test for me now is in 2017 when the card expires ....... will I feel the urge to keep it?!!

I think you're right to satisfy the craving. See what it's like and what all the fuss is about. Then, you can start an annual TP run if you like it, otherwise a not-too-shabby return to Silver.
Let us know if you think it was worth it!

Glad to hear it....although ''a wee TP run within the Sates'' sounds a bit dodgy.Good luck anyway I shall be keeping an eye on you. So once you're Gold don't go getting ideas above your station or you'll be hearing from me.

Like you PETER01 I am a WT flyer with occasional treats above if i can get them - my very first TP run and status change from blue was a HNL in April and I got to Gold a few weeks ago! I didn't plan on it as the main benefit (as others say) of lounge access is achieved at Silver but I ended up too close to the threshold to let it pass! (With some help from C-W-S!)
Two days later I had some IRROPS on a cheapo return leg BOS-ORD-MAN-LHR on AA and got them to book me BOS-LHR on that evening instead (to my utter delight) - I wonder if that would have happened if I was still on a lower tier (or do IRROPS trigger that kind flexibility for everyone when re-booking?)
If so - that will be the main benefit of Gold for me. I have yet to actually enter GF under my own steam: next Friday!

Funnily enough yes! Australia, so 2 WTP returns there and 3 Y/WTP trips to elsewhere with a wee TP run within the States.

My feet are firmly on the ground and now that I am nearing 50 I don't need anyone keeping an eye on me.............

I suppose it will be nice for me too to enter a F Lounge under my own steam too! Enjoy next Friday!!

@ my bolding - I'm not sure of the answer to your question there

Although not English, bacon is the worst part of travelling to the US. Full English certainly does a bit of a push for Gold. Though I am aware that I buying it with a bottle of champagne every time I am at the airport would cost me less than keeping shiny card
(but less fun

Good for you PETER01, it's something I'm giving consideration to myself. I've a bit of flying coming all be it in non OW carriers between Nov and May '16, my year changes in August 2016 so I'll either do TP run to get to Silver when I'm in the states in September and if I find it easy I'll consider a further one to gold if I get the right price.
Best of luck.
Best of luck.
