I wouldn't miss it terribly if I dropped to silver. That said, when I dropped from silver to blue, I didn't miss it either, I just wasn't travelling enough.

Yes there are really more than enough reasons for me. Silvers don't have the choice of exit rows until 14 days then you have to pay for them.
The soft landing to Silver isn't the main reason why, it's the 2 years as Gold and the USA is where I'll also benefit re the Lounges when I go there
