IST-BKK
Having real trouble finding 2 seats in F from IST-BKK mid-April 2011. Last week there seemed to be plenty of availability but now nothing at all. Any advice would be much appreciated :)

I try to book an award flight in business class from Denpasar (DPS) to Jakarta (CGK) via Singapore (SIN) on Singapore Airlines. The first leg, DPS-SIN, doesn't cause any problems, but apparently it is impossible to book the second leg, SIN-CGK. The ANA website shows there should be availability in Y-class. The people at BMI too can see there is availability, but when they try to make the booking it appears the seats on that flight are blocked by Singapore Airlines. I have called BMI several times already over the past few weeks and tried changing the dates of my flight, but the situation remains the same.
Has anyone else encountered a similar problem? What are my chances for the seats on the SIN-CGK flight to still open up? And is this issue BMI specific or will it be the same of I try to use Miles and More or Mileage Plus? (I haven't tried either of those yet, because I would like to get rid of my BMI miles.) (Note to anyone trying to book flights within Indonesia: The Indonesians appear to be heavily protective of their own airspace and favor their own lousy carriers. All of my searches, whether on ITA or Kayak, come up with Garuda Airlines as the only option. Good times.) |
Help finding flights MAN to Florida in July/August 2011
Hi,
I'm hoping someone out there may be able to help me find some flights. I'm looking for 3 round trip seats *A in business, MAN to Florida (Orlando, Miami or anywhere else in central/southern Florida), with a 2-3 night stopover in New York on either outward or return, total 16-19 nights. I started looking at the earliest date we can go, 23rd July, MAN-EWR, then 25th EWR-MCO (ideally evening flight - all the call centre have offered so far is a 06.15 flight in economy), MCO-MAN 9th Aug, but I am prepared to be flexible on dates & total amount of time away, as long as we are back for early Sept! I'm not sure if we'll have very much choice at this peak time - but is there much to choose between routes & carriers in terms of 1. the amount of "tax" we'll have to pay - I gather this includes some large fuel supplements now, as well as the high UK APD, & 2. the quality of service in business. Thanks in advance for any help & advice. |

Florida 2011
Hi, I have 125,807 points on my BMI Star Alliance account and was hoping to use them up before the M&M merger. I have a great amount of flexibility and aware that I may need to purchase some points to achieve what I want to.
I am hoping to take the missus over to Florida next year, Orlando, Tampa or Miami, it really doesn't matter too much the airport as we will end up driving to different places. Looking to fly from Scotland, any airport, in the earlier part of the year Apr-Jun for about 14 days. We would like to book business class (if thats possible) but I have tried the ANA tool and am just getting confused. I am unsure what points I would need for this purchase, BMI and Continental show different values for bookings. I don't want to go and buy some miles, then find I still haven't got enough. All the miles are on my family account. Is anyone aware of the best route to achieve this trip, and the potential costs involved over and above the miles (which I thought were zone 3 @ 45000 each x 1.5 = 135,000) I would then purchase miles before the end of October to get the 20% uplift. If needed I could always fly to either London or Manchester, as they have more frequent flights to Florida. Thanks in advance for any assistance or guidance. |

Which dates are you looking for ?
there is often a lot of availability on the LH flight SIN-CGK Unless, of course, I can get them to check my bag through, but that seems unlikely seen how they are completely separate tickets. Or you reckon they could? :) Because that wouldn't only save time, but I also wouldn't have to pay for yet another Indonesian visa just to collect my bag. :p |
You are right about the mileage required - 135k for busienss class is bang on for 2. The most likely route to MCO is via FRA - LH usually had decent availability... however, they drip feed it out and then dump the balance about 6-8 weeks out, so you may need to be patient and do a last minute job. The down side is that the YQ (fuel surcharge) is frightening, and when you add Gordon Browne's little present, you may not be prepared to pay that much tax. In that case, you could book a cheap flight to FRA in economy and start your redemption from there.
Beyond that, you'd be looking at CO to EWR and onwards - and in my experience, the seats are as rare as hen's teeth. Have a look at the bmi forum sticky and learn about the ANA tool. |
Quick question - does SQ still blocks C and F redemption on routes with new product ?
